Talula's obituary

With our deepest regrets, Talula passed away on May 24, 2024 at the age of 12, following a year long battle with Leukemia.

Talula Zetta Reicker was born in San Francisco on February 5, 2012 to her parents, Rick and Zetta Reicker, weighing only 6 lbs and 6 ounces. She was an only child, beloved by her friends and family.

Talula was an avid reader, often reading up to four or five hours a day. This was one of the silver linings of the pandemic, when her reading skills really took off and she enjoyed many lazy afternoons outside with her head in a book.  Even after the pandemic and into her cancer treatment, almost every morning at breakfast she would be reading.  She preferred science fiction and fantasy, and often re-read book series many times over. She developed quite the vocabulary and her parents were happy when she took to her new kindle (so many books, and not enough space!), where she could easily look up the meaning of words. She once described herself as ‘someone who wonders what books are out there’.

Talula was always listening to music and would sing and dance every chance she could get. From a very young age, she was also an incredibly creative artist and had a natural ability to blend and match colors. She loved to draw, paint, and was talented beyond her years. In Kindergarten, she and 11 other Kinders formed a Girl Scout Troop. They had many messy, silly fun activities, they sang, learned how to cook outside, make lanyards, and had many days at different camps running around just being kids. In the kitchen, she loved baking cookies and pies with her mom and loved playing games with her dad.  She was a ferocious Mario Kart competitor that repeatedly made her parents and friends realize that they could no longer really compete, with much hope of placing 1st. As she rounded her 10th year, she became more of a Dr. Martin and dyed hair kind of girl.

Among Talula's favorite ways to spend her time was at Keyspot, the after-school program at Murwood Elementary, where she would spend time with friends and the beloved staff, it was truly her second home. She had hoped to one day become a Keyspot Counselor in Training. When she would come home, she had an insatiable appetite for sushi or steak for dinner. She loved popcorn and watermelon, and enjoyed a frequent strawberry acaí drink from Starbucks. On the weekends, she loved to start her Saturdays by reading and then getting a cinnamon raisin bagel with strawberry cream cheese from the House of Bagels. An eclectic girl to say the least.

After her diagnosis, Talula never complained and never felt sorry for herself. She was incredibly brave and always pressed forward through her many, many treatments with unwavering courage and tenacity. She taught us much about what it means to be strong in the face of great challenges. She was among the most innocent of children. We never heard her utter a bad word or negative comment about anyone. She was pure in every way and the world lost a beautiful soul with a bright future when she passed.

Talula is survived by her mother Zetta Reicker and father Rick Reicker, her grandmother Mary Wells, her grandparents Dan and Romy Reicker, and her favorite uncle, Evan Wells, and her Aunt Sonja McHenry.

Talula's memory will be forever cherished, and she will be forever loved. In this world and in the next.
