Rick and Zetta - your family is in our hearts.  Love, the Hans
Thank you for allowing me to be a part of Lulu’s journey, for sharing stories and memories and helping me to get to know Lulu better. She was a brave, strong and beautiful little warrior and I will cherish the time I was able to be there for her and her parents. I think of her often and sometimes find myself calling my other patients by her name. She made quite the impact on us nurses at George Mark Children’s home. It was so beautiful to see all the love poured out on Lulu. The fountain will forever be her spot and I will never sit by the fountain without thinking of her sitting in the sun sipping on her Starbucks with family and friends at her side. Praying she has been made new and singing and dancing with the angels and God in Heaven! All my love! ❤️

Meeting Talula when we were n…
2012
Meeting Talula when we were neighbors in the Mission. I think it was one of the times I had been cat sitting for you but not sure. I remember her being so tiny and super chill.
Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to get to know Lulu other than when meeting her when she was a toddler. But I did get to know a lot about her, and her parents, during the 10-month battle the three of them fought ferociously together. From that horrifyingly devastating ordeal, I learned Lulu had an indominatable spirit always accompanied by a smile, a sense of humor and a continuing passion for continuing to do the things she loved doing whenever she was able. She did not give in to self pity and met every day and every challenge with an "I can do this" attitude. She was an ever-present, brightly glowing light in the presence of darkness which continues to shine upon us and reside in the deepest recesses of our hearts. I also learned about her parents, Rick and Zetta. Absolutely nothing one experiences in life prepares us for what they faced. Though lovingly supported by a vast network of family, friends and colleagues, they were forced to take a solitary journey of pain, suffering and, now, grief, that defies description. A journey that shattered beliefs about life and the loss of future hopes. Though decimated by the cruelty of Lulu's illness and torn to shreds day by day as they watched her suffer, they somehow managed to fill those 10 months with consummate love, unwavering optimism and an exhausting, unflinching determination to pursue every possible option in terms of treatment and care. They filled Lulu's days and nights with a kind of love that is beyond comprehension for those of us who have not had to endure such senseless tragedy. If one is looking for heroes in real life, Lulu, Rick and Zetta are at the top of the list.

I will always have a deep love for Lulu. It was a joy to know her and to watch her grow into a sassy, clever, big-hearted,12 year old. Lu brought a lot of joy into my life—she could really make me laugh (and think) with her astute observations and thoughtful questions. I was in awe of her many talents and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her. What a delightful, unique, and positive force she was. I think about her all the time and feel extremely lucky to have known her.

I absolutely love this photo ❤️
I’m so sorry for your loss. I met Talula my first year working at Keyspot. She was one of the first kids I got to form a good relationship with and I saw a lot of myself in her. I loved getting to see her creativity and humor grow and blossom throughout the school year. Having her in my Dungeons and Dragons club was so special, she truly helped bring the other kids together with her excitement and enthusiasm. Watching her create and play through a story and character that she made was magical and it’s the reason I continue to do the club for the foreseeable future. The world won’t be the same without her in it, she was truly a wonderful student with a bright and positive energy that always made the boring or bad days better.
