It is with a heavy heart to inform you that Sylvia Montalvo Scroggins Cerna 87, of Santa Clara, California, passed away on September 14, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 18, 1937, the parents of Claudine Scroggins and Leo Montalvo, a cherished member of the community who touched the lives of many.
Sylvia Cerna grew up in Edinburg, Texas, and attended boarding school abroad. After which moved to San Diego California and married Joseph E. Torres Sr. Where she thrived in sales for a Jewish jeweler and developed a passion for sales. After completing her Masters Of Arts, at the College of San Mateo. She then embarked on a fulfilling career in job placement and later created her own job placement company, Cerna Associates, LLC.
In addition to her professional accomplishments. Sylvia was devoted to her family and friends. She was a loving wife, parent, and grandparent, always putting her family first and nurturing those around her. Sylvia has a special gift for making everyone feel welcome and loved, often hosting family gatherings and celebrations that bring joy to many. Further, she maintained an ability to make others laugh. Per her astrological sign. Sylvia proved to be the preeminent Aries.
Sylvia was also heavily involved in the DNC where she was a strong advocate primarily for the state of California. Sylvia worked on the steering committee for Diane Feinstein and was a close associate and friend of Leon Panetta and Norman Y. Mineta. Where she dedicated her life to civil rights and altogether assisting the DNC. Sylvia was a strong proponent in helping others in need and giving back to he family and worthwhile causes. She inspired the community around her wherever she went.
On a lighter note, Sylvia enjoyed traveling. She routinely enjoyed reading the NY Times and crossword tables as one of her favorite pastimes. Her command of both English and the Spanish language was impressively exemplary. the memories created during these pursuits will forever be cherished by her loved ones.
