Sybil Thompson was a tower of hope within the Kencot Community, her vision for the empowerment of people extended beyond the simple acts of church ministry. It was evident by her words and actions that she had a genuine love for people and as such would do that which it required to help.

I met Mrs. Thompson in 2011 but would have been aware of the work she was doing within the Kencot community prior through the home work program and skills training at the St. Clements Mission. Since then she has supported the efforts of the Kencot Community Development Council in it's efforts at improving the lives of residents through holistic development.

In 2013 the community of Kencot awarded her the Michael Manley Award Lifetime Achievement Award (the only recipient to date) , in recognition of her selfless contribution to our community.

I am happy to have met this woman, I am happy to have met this angel sent to walk and be among us here within the community of Kencot;  I am happy to have met a woman of God whose actions were a clear indication that she was not just talking about ministry but she was a true replica of what Christian Ministry is!

She was a woman who was ready to learn everyday always willing to learn about people and community and how she can provide support.

In  November 2020, as the world was trying to fight the tides of Covid, the Kencot Community was not only faced with trying to survive Covid-19 pandemic, but we had to deal with new social problems this pandemic had brought us. The Kencot Community Development Council turned to our churches (yes the churches), for support to address the issues. And all the churches closed their doors on us. It was Sybil Thompson who understood the need and supported the vision for this issue to be addressed. She was not able to physically be involved, but I can tell you she called everyday until the last bolt was put in the problem. She ensured that the resources we needed was available to us.

She is a clear reminder that we still have genuine Christians amongst us and not just pulpit bearers.

Mrs. Sybil Thompson unwavering love for us- residents of the Kencot Community was real and her deeds have not gone unnoticed. Her legacy will forever be apart of efforts in building our community and by extension that of Jamaica 🇯🇲 Because that's what she lived for!

I hope that the St. Andrew Parish Church, your family and friends understood the passion and the vision you had, and that by so doing, will take your vision further in continuing your work of bettering the lives of Jamaicans.

Mrs. Thompson will forever be in my heart, I remember my first encounter in 1998 at an Anglican function at the Pegasus, we looked at each other n her smile captured my heart, she asked me what was my name, we exchanged numbers and our friendship blossomed. I can easily say she was a one of kind and I cherished every moment spent ; Always Loving , Pleasant , Positive , Kind and Helpful. She was a Saint and was so devoted to her Mission . She will be Forever Missed. Surely her Sweet Soul will Rest In Peace n Light Perpetual with Shine on Her. Tanya, May God Strengthen you and your family at this time, We have lost a Matriarch 😌
