Sverre's obituary
Obituary
Sverre Johansen, 62, of Moses Lake Washington, passed on March 10, 2023, peacefully, at home, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Sverre was born December 27, 1960, in Molde Norway, he was the youngest of six siblings, the son of Sverre Hilbert and Lina Johanne Johansen. Along with his siblings, Sverre was raised on Aukra, a small island, in Norway. Sverre came to the U. S. in 1984 to help start a commercial fishing company with Kjell Inge Rokke. He continued to work in the fishing industry until his death.
Sverre married Carol Goss, together they had two wonderful children together, Even and Alyssa Johansen. They later divorced and remained good friends.
On May 30, 1998, he married Regina “Gina” Smigaj. Sverre and Gina lived in the Seattle area for many years co-parenting with Carol, making Even and Alyssa their priority. Eventually, they made their home in Moses Lake, Washington, where they started Cascade Cellars, a small mom and pop winery.
Sverre enjoyed long drives and exploring. Many trips were made to Montana, Gina’s home state. Sverre loved being on the water, whether being out on a large fishing vessel, boating in the San Juan Islands or an evening on his pontoon boat on Moses Lake with family, his dogs, a nice glass of Carmenere and watching the sunset.
He loved to cook! It was amazing how he could throw together an incredible dinner, making something out of nothing. When he was younger, he would leave a trail of candy wrappers from the bus stop to his home, Dalseth. He loved chocolate, ice cream, cream cheese Danishes and hot dogs.
Sverre had a Norwegian stubbornness, that was warm and direct. He had the biggest heart, caring for all persons around him.
Sverre is survived by his wife Gina Smigaj-Johansen, son; Even Johansen, daughter; Alyssa and sister; Jorunn Beøy.
Sverre is proceeded in death by his parents Sverre and Lina, brothers; Alf Magne, Lorentz Johan and Jan, sisters; Anne Margrete (Greta), Sylvi and his side kick, Buster, his very loved chihuahua.
