Susan's obituary

Susan Margaret Ruby Womack passed away unexpectedly on April 14, 2025, in Clovis, California, at the age of 76. Though her time on earth ended, she stepped into the eternal joy of her heavenly home.

Born on October 6, 1948, in Fresno, California, to James and Phyllis Ruby, Susan spent her early years there before the family moved to Sanger in 1955. She attended Harding and Taft Elementary Schools, Washington Junior High, and graduated from Sanger High School in 1966. She pursued her passion for music as a major at Reedley College and Fresno City College.

Throughout her life, Susan held a variety of clerical roles, including working as an administrative assistant to the County Health Director, a legal secretary, and in the insurance field. For 25 years, she managed the office and bookkeeping for her former husband’s horse racing business. In more recent years, she successfully ran her own online retail stores and also managed Barry McGuire’s online store for over two decades.

A gifted musician, Susan was an accomplished pianist who could both read complex sheet music and play beautifully by ear. Her love for music extended to the banjo and keyboard, and she was a devoted member of the praise and worship team at Sanger Community Church for many years. She once said that losing her piano would be like losing her right arm. Her music was a blessing to all who heard it, from family to neighbors and friends. She performed and collaborated over the years with artists such as Danny Agajanian, the New Christy Minstrels, Talbot and McGuire, and Barry McGuire.

Susan was active in her high school class reunions having put together multiple video along with music from their decade. She stayed in contact with classmates through the years as they would gather at 5 year intervals along with informal gatherings in between.

On February 3, 2007, Susan married the love of her life, Terry Lee Womack, in a private ceremony officiated by Barry McGuire. Their love story began during their college years at Fresno City College, and though life took them in different directions for a time, they reconnected years later through classmates.com. Susan flew to Liberty, Missouri where Terry was living at the time, and they made the drive back to California together to start a new chapter. Over the course of their 20+ years together and 18 years of marriage, they made homes in Fresno, Sanger, and Clovis, sharing many adventures and treasured trips along the way.

Susan is survived by her beloved husband, Terry Womack; her sister, Karen (Tom) Charnock; brother, Jim Ruby; sister, Patty (Kevin) Behrens; nieces Christy Sanders, Amy DeWall, Jennifer Chinander, Taylor Bradford, and Sarah Strid Morgan; nephews Samuel Strid and Spencer Strid; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She will be remembered always for her warmth, her faith, her musical gifts, and the joy she brought to family gatherings with her spontaneous and spirited piano playing.

She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
