Susan's obituary

Susan Marie Watkins, 69 of Hayward, California, peacefully passed away before sunrise on Sunday, December 4, 2022. She took her final breaths in the loving arms of her husband and daughter. She was born in the Spring of 1953 in Oakland, California to her parents Ermalene and Anthony Gomes, she was the oldest of four and the only girl.

Sue was raised and went to school in San Leandro, California, after high school she went on to work for Western Electric/AT&T in both California and Tennessee. She worked for Big Brothers/Big Sisters in Ohio and went on to retire with the Teamsters Union working 18 years for Locals 78 and 853. Through school and work Sue made many life long friendships that evolved into family over the years.

Susie was a daughter, wife, mother, sister, niece, auntie, cousin and forever friend to so many. Her kind, creative and nurturing nature is what so many loved most about her. She loved baking, crafting and making things to gift to all of her loved ones. No one ever left her home or her side empty handed or hearted.

Susan was proceeded in death by her parents Erm and Anthony Gomes, her Gomes and Ferreira Grandparents, baby sister Ermalene Gomes, two younger brothers James “Jimmy” and Daniel “Danny” Gomes, Mother and Father In-Law Audrey and Roy “Toby” Watkins and many family and friends. She was survived by her loving husband of 42 years James “Jimmy” Watkins, daughter and care taker Jamie Watkins, younger brother Anthony “Tony” Gomes along with so many family and lifelong friends.

Auntie Sue would want to make mention of two extremely special people in her life. There were few places she would go without her niece Wendy “Woo” Nicole McDonald in tow, and then there’s her nephew Miles Anthony Terry who was as close to a grandson she would get and Wendy was a second daughter in her heart and mind.  She could not have spoiled and dotted on these two enough, there were very few things or people she invested as much time and energy in than these two. They were truly the apples of her eye.

Sue was a dog lover, in particular Miniature Schnauzers, as they are hypo allergenic along with being the cutest breed on the planet. She had seven total throughout her life, five girls and two boys: Misty 1, Misty 2, Sashee, Chewie, Tutsee, Oscar and Pepper. She had a special bond with all of them and is reunited with all but one, Pepper a much needed comfort to her family at this time.

Susie’s family will be hosting a reception on Sunday, March 12, 2023, her birthday, at the Hayward Veterans Memorial at noon. This day also happens to be daylight savings time and we lose an hour as we welcome more daylight. If folks are running an hour behind, we’ll know why. 😊 Thank you for your patience as Sue’s family takes the time they need to grieve, heal and plan the most wonderful day of remembrance and celebration of her beautiful life.
