Ginger's obituary
Ginger Vodak, born Susan Mae Anderson, 72, of Quantico, Maryland passed away peacefully, September 26th surrounded by loved ones.
She was born to the late Charles Ray Anderson and Charlotte Janet Acuff, October 2, 1949 in St. Mary’s City, Maryland.
Descended from Carolina civil war soldiers, Virginia coal miners, and Tennessee farmers, Ginger spent her youth traveling the United States while her father served in the military. She met her future husband, John (Jack) Daniel Vodak while living with her mother in Pasadena, Maryland and they married in Annapolis, Maryland in April of 1968.
Shortly after, they established their home on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and welcomed the birth of their first daughter, Laura Michelle in 1969.
They moved to their current residence in Quantico, Maryland in 1977, the same year as the birth of their second daughter, Danielle Suzanne.
Through the years, Jack and Ginger transformed their property to reflect their passions, from horses, chickens, and bunnies for Ginger, to hunting dogs, fishing boats, and vegetable gardens for Jack.
Ginger developed her love of plants and flowers while working at a local nursery and this love is reflected in each of her many and beautiful gardens around their property. Ginger enjoyed learning new skills like sewing, canning, cake decorating, painting, and building computers. Her love of music took her from playing the accordion in church youth group, to learning the guitar from her husband. She was known to add her sweet, alto harmony to church hymns, country music records, and radio rock ‘n roll.
Ginger also enjoyed meeting new people, evident by her successful 20 year career in sales and engineering at Cambridge Wire Cloth in Cambridge, Maryland and the many get-togethers her and Jack hosted at their farm, guitars at the ready, for the enjoyment of many friends.
Despite a life-changing accident in 1992 that left her paralyzed, Ginger never slowed down, continuing her career full-time, gardening, and caring for her grandchildren. In this, she showed incredible fortitude and strength by always finding the silver lining and refusing to be burdened by her limited mobility.
Friends and family sought Ginger for her incredible wisdom and delicious home cooking, both perfected through many years of trial and error. She never hesitated to offer encouragement, suggestions, and a warm smile to those in need and showed her love through acts of service.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jack Vodak: daughters, Laura Reid and Danielle (Matthew) Makowski; grandsons; Matthew Reid and Nicholas Reid; and granddaughters, Jacklyn Smith, Lucy Smith, Maura Smith, and Savannah Makowski.
