Susan was a good sister to me. I fought with her when we were kids because of her being mom’s favorite. After four boys (Roger, Greg. Mike, and Ralph) spaced about two years apart, mom finally got a daughter. Susan loved mom deeply and was in some ways like her including the love of golf. It is perhaps fitting but heartbreaking that Susan died on mom’s birthday. Now they can play golf together every day without pain and in the sunshine.
Susan was also close to Mike. During her time in Laramie, Mike and Susan lived together off campus. Susan never accepted the common norm requiring freshman to live on campus. Susan was like that. Susan would feed us pizza from Shakey’s in Laramie when we were hungry students. Susan never liking the cold of Laramie, transferred to New Mexico to finish her business degree. In typical Susan fashion she opened her first adventure, a popcorn shop after graduating. Susan was always looking forward to the next big thing.
One of the big things was working with our brother Greg, who introduced her to the world of accounting and finance which she excelled. She became quite the businesswoman and was very successful. Susan moved and travelled quite a bit during her career. Finally, she settled down a little bit with Bob who treated her like royalty – just the way she liked.
In July 2020, Sue was devastated on Mike’s death in Cheyenne. Mike was only 64 years old and his death hit the whole family hard. Roger was instrumental in proving a ceremony in Casper honoring Mike during COVID times.
With Mike’s death, Greg was able to cajole everybody to attend a family get together in Alpine, WY. All the brothers were able to attend along with the wives, Monica, Sharon, Poli and of course Susan and Bob. This was the last family meeting. It is unfortunate that time, distance, careers, and schedules didn’t allow more time together.
Susan, Loving you always, Ralph
