Susan's obituary

Susan (Finley) Minor passed away peacefully on September 28th, 2024, at the age of 82.

Susan was born on February 14, 1942, in Phoenix, Arizona, as the youngest of four children to Richard and Ethel Finley. Fondly called "Squeezie" by her family (especially by her beloved brother, Mike), she shared an inseparable bond with her siblings and delighted in recounting tales of their childhood escapades.

While waitressing in a Chinese restaurant in Phoenix, Susan met the love of her life, Robert Minor. Their love story blossomed, leading to their marriage in 1964 and a move to Seattle. The couple settled in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, where they raised their family and maintained an open-door policy to family and friends.

Susan was a woman of many talents. She was an artist, collector, chef, and athlete who loved to travel and explore. Her enduring passion for soccer began in the early '70s, and she became an ardent promoter of women's soccer. Her love of the sport was acknowledged by her induction into the Washington State Soccer Hall of Fame along with her fellow Blue Angels, with whom she won a number of national championships. Susan also participated in the Masters Olympics in the triple and long jump and was involved in the early feminism movement with NOW.

Following Robert's passing in 2001, Susan devoted herself to caring for the elderly until her own retirement. She is survived by her brother, Michael Finley, her children (biological and of the heart), Shana, Michael, and Mieko, her daughter-in-law, Tiffany, and her grandchildren, Brady, Kai, Maile, and Luca.

Known for her warmth, infectious laughter, and love for a good celebration, Susan’s indomitable spirit and generosity will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
