Every time I came over and saw Susan, I would always say, " Hello Mrs. Better, you sure do look nice today". In which she always would reply with a mild hint of sarcasm and humor... "OH why thank you Opie!" 😊 I'm going to miss her more than anyone will know. She was definitely one of a kind, and God nuked the mold when he was done making her. Sorry I couldn't make it to the celebration of life, I had a wedding to attend in Vegas. My love to the entire family ❤️

My first time on a plane and first trip to California was to see Judie and Susie. I was in high school and I traveled by myself. I’m sure Mickey remembers one of the dishes Susie introduced me to in that visit. It included Consommé soup and rice. When I got back home, I thought I would show off my new recipe Susie taught me. Nope…it didn’t turn out so good. I never tried that recipe again. 😊

As the next 2 the youngest sibling/sister, I too was a student in Susie’s classroom. To piggy back on Jonita’s story, she also taught us “My Father’s House”, “Tonight, You Belong to Me”, and many more. I cherish the memories of the five sisters harmonizing the songs she taught us in the back yard at night. She’s probably forming choirs in Heaven. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Susie was one of my first teachers. On Saturday mornings she would gather all of the kids on the block together and have "school". She would teach us poems and songs. She even turned us into a choir that would sing Christmas carols for the neighbors. Some of my favorite songs she taught us were "Come and go with me to my Fathers house", "Travelling on the Western Trail", "You Are My Sunshine" and "Im the happiest Christmas Tree".
