Susan's obituary

Susan Ann Lello (Laidley) of Mount Prospect, IL, passed away on Saturday, January 18th, 2020, at JourneyCare Hospice Center, Glenview, IL, after an almost decade long battle with younger onset Alzheimer’s Disease. She was 60 years old. Born July 16, 1959, Susan grew up in Chicago and spent much of her childhood years in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Susan married her husband, Tony, on November 21st 1981. This past November was their 38th wedding anniversary.

Along with Tony, Susan is survived by her four children, Andrew (34) married to Sadie, David (33), Danny (30) and Susie (28) married to Miles, as well as granddaughter, Zélie (6 months), and another granddaughter due in April who we, for now, call Bambi.

Susan was a greatly loved wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend, neighbor and teacher. A middle school science teacher at Winston Campus, in Palatine, IL, she was much loved by her students. Many nights, she would go home hungry, having shared with or given her lunch to one of the children in her class. Despite already suffering symptoms of her yet to be diagnosed affliction, Sue completed her Masters in Education a year before her formal diagnosis at Mayo Clinic.

She brought out the very best versions of those that surrounded her. Sue inspired everyone she came in contact with to laugh freely and love boldly. Many believe she brought a whole community together. She loved wholeheartedly and saw the beauty in all things that embodied LIFE. On any given day you could find her telling complete strangers how beautiful they were, gardening in her backyard, laughing with and loving her children, dancing with her husband, getting into trouble with her best friends, waving to the preschoolers that would walk down Pine street, and keeping her dog and dearest companion, Kaja, close by. Even in her later days, if the word ‘ice cream’ was spoken, you could see her head turn sharply with eyes wide open. If the mention of a party was made, she would stand up and ask, “when are we going?”, with a smile dancing on her lips. She was always wanting to put her shoes on, so that she would be ready. Ready for what? For life.

To the end, Sue loved and frequently visited horticultural centers such as the Chicago Botanic Garden, Garfield Park Conservatory and a local favorite of hers, Friendship Park Conservatory in Des Plaines, IL. A public celebration of her life will be held at Friendship Park Conservatory, 395 W Algonquin Rd, Des Plaines, IL, on Sunday, April 5th, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m.

She lived fully; and through the eternal impact she has had on endless amounts of people that surrounded her, she will continue to live on. She is not gone, she is everywhere.
