ATTENTION:
TO THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE GIVEN OR WHO CHOOSE TO GIVE, YOU HAVE OUR DEEP AND SINCERE GRATITUDE.
AS OF JUNE 26, 2020, A TOTAL OF $8620 HAS BEEN RAISED VIA EVER LOVED AND FROM OUTSIDE DONATIONS. BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC, WE HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO COMMUNICATE AND MEET IN PERSON WITH OUR CONTACTS AT MAYO CLINIC, JOURNEYCARE AND DISTRICT 15. THEREFOR, NONE OF THE CONTRIBUTIONS HAVE BEEN DISTRIBUTED AND IT MAY BE SOME TIME BEFORE THAT HAPPENS. HOWEVER, AN ACCOUNTING OF THOSE DISTRIBUTIONS WILL BE MADE HERE, DETAILING HOW THE FUNDS HAVE BEEN SPENT.
FURTHER, WE HAVE DECIDED THAT ALL CONTRIBUTIONS WILL BE ALLOCATED TO ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:
1. Mayo Clinic Alzheimer’s Research
Mayo Clinic was in our corner from the time we finally went there looking for answers in 2012, after two years of confusion, fear and our inability to get a diagnosis of her affliction at Chicago area hospitals. To be fair, early on, Sue’s symptoms were atypical for Alzheimer’s and even unusual for epileptic seizures, making it difficult for doctors at several large Chicago medical centers to make a diagnosis. But, in April, 2012, after a nearly three week stay at Mayo, their amazing world-class multidisciplinary approach resulted in her formal diagnosis at age 52. While there was and is no meaningful treatment to halt or even delay progression of this disease, Sue became part of their Alzheimers Research program. After her death and by her wishes, Sue’s brain was donated to their program for autopsy and further research. Our donation to Mayo will be to help them continue their cutting edge research that will perhaps one day help find a way to prevent and perhaps even cure this disease. Today, it is estimated that over 5 million Americans are afflicted. By many estimates, that number will triple by the year 2050, Two thirds of those stricken are women.
2. JourneyCare Hospice
A donation will also go to purchase or go towards the purchase of some wish-list item(s) for the incredible staff that cared for Sue, providing at-home palliative and hospice care over the last two years of her life, as well as in-patient care at their amazing Glenview Hospice Care Center during her last two weeks.
3. Ginkgo Memorial, Winston Campus Middle school, Palatine, Illinois.
A middle school science teacher and lover of all the outdoors, Sue loved all plants and flowers; but we both fell in love with the ginkgo tree the first time we laid eyes on one of these mature trees in its glorious yellow autumn splendor. Revered for its beauty and its longevity, the ginkgo is a living fossil, unchanged for more than 200 million years. It has the unique characteristic of dropping virtually all of its fan-shaped, autumn leaves in one magnificent drop, often in just one day, every year. We are working with the school district where Sue taught, to plant a ginkgo as a specimen tree on the grounds of the school where she taught. A permanent dedication plaque will encourage science students to enter their guesses each year of what day and time “Sue’s Tree” will start the “great drop.” Contribute
