What a special lady she was. I would be drinking that coffee with her on those hot summer days. Makes me smile at all the memories made at those games.

When Susie and I were kids we DID NOT get along.  But there was one thing we would always do together back then.  While mom and dad were watching tv,  we'd sneak into the kitchen and get a bottle of pickles out of the refrigerator.  I was the look-out.  Then we'd go back to mom and dad's bedroom, Susie would lay on the bed and drink the pickle juice out of the jar(I got nothing out of this except the excitement of not getting caught).   When we got older of course the fighting of little kids stopped, and we became closer.    It was after our parent's passing that we became much closer.   She would call me, or I would call her and we'd talk forever.  She would tell me stories of the ways I would torture her when I was little, and I actually remembered some of them!  We would laugh, I would apologize, and she would say "Oh don't worry about that!"    My sister Susan was a wonderful wife and mother, funny and strong, and a warm and loving sister.  It's hard to believe she's gone, but I have my memories, so Susie's right here with me.

One afternoon during the summer, the girls (Hayley & Brittany), my brother Nick, Brittany’s friend (I think Lauren was her name) and I had spent a summer day being kids. By smid-day we had all successfully exhausted Aunt Sue’s patience. We were tasked with writing things down out of a thesaurus as punishment. While taking my turn, I had drawn a smiley face in her new thesaurus. She was checking our work once done and she found it. She was not happy! It was a new thesaurus, she reminded us several times!! She interviewed all of us and no one would fess up. I knew it was my a** if I confessed. There was a swift but calculated interrogation from Aunt Sue. She aimed to isolate the culprit and bring justice.  Her demeanor during the time suggested she knew it was me but stayed fair and neutral throughout the homemade process.  For some reason Brittany’s friend confessed about 30mins in or so. I was stunned. Aunt Sue was stunned. She doled out a minor punishment to Lauren as I can only imagine she knew at the time it was me. The day closed and a decade or so passed.

During a visit to Republic that decade or so later, we met at Aunt Sues house for a visit. The occasion escapes me, but we had all grown up, the girls were now women, Brittany’s friend had long since moved away, and a lot of life had happened. Uncle Jay had passed, my dad had passed, and we all lived in different places. During our visit we were playing games and having fun conversation about our times together, like we always did. During one of those conversations, I asked Aunt Sue if she had a thesaurus I could borrow, believing that now was the time to share my sins and come clean. I anticipated she would have no idea what I was talking about since it had been so long.  She brought out the same thesaurus from over 10 years previous and I found the smiley face. I asked her if she remembered where that had come from and in that moment  it was like our minds connected. She knew I was about to come clean.  I asked if she remembered that Brittany’s friend had taken the fall for it. She said “yes, it was you wasn't’ it you little sh*t!?” I was laughing and she was laughing and she hit me with the thesaurus.

It felt good to get the off my chest. Aunt Sue was a smart, fair, fun, and genuine person. I am glad to have had her influence in my life when I did.

Love you , Aunt Sue

Sue and I would play Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective at the kitchen table in the "dark", while Uncle Jay and the girls and my boys watched movies. Sue always made bread pudding! We solved a lot of crimes! Fun times!

I remember aunt Sue would always let us come down and run around with you girls. Your mom and dad always truly had an open door policy when it came to family and friends. Theirs was easily the busiest house on the block! I remember those game nights at the ballpark and we would have a blast then we would head to y'alls house for weekend game nights! So much fun and good memories to even list them all. We always tried to put on little plays and things and God love her, she was always willing to watch them!

I have many fond memories of your mom and dad at the ballpark. She was always cheering us on and such a sweet soul. Thinking of you all.
Sorry for your loss but your memories of your mother was very heart warming
