Susan's obituary
Susan Love Brasfield Batson, loving wife, mother, grandmother and cancer warrior, peacefully passed into God’s hands on August 27, 2022 at her home in Germantown, TN. The spirit was willing, but the body failed her. Susan was born to Joseph Dunkley Brasfield and Jane Love Tate on November 23, 1948 in Birmingham, AL. Susan graduated from Shades Valley HS in Birmingham, AL in 1966. After graduating from Auburn University in 1970, she began a career in Computer Science. She returned to school, receiving a Masters in Education from William Carey University in 1995. Susan’s love of mathematics outpoured onto students in Mississippi, Louisiana and Tennessee. Susan was an active member of Covenant UMC in Cordova, TN, playing and directing handbells for many years. She was also a proud member, and officer, of the Smocking Arts Guild of America, Memphis Chapter.
Susan is survived by her husband, Bob Batson, daughters Michelle (Jeremy) Long and Jen (Chad) Sellers, as well as four grandchildren Molly, Emily, Leah and JJ. Susan is also survived by her brother Ted (Jeannie) Brasfield, and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Susan’s life will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Covenant UMC in Cordova, TN at 10:00 AM with a visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to The Cancer Card Xchange in memory of Susan Batson. cancercardxchange.org. A basket to receive gift card donations for The Cancer Card Xchange will also be available at the celebration.
