Sunik's obituary

Sunik Hwang was born on May 12, 1947, in South Korea. She was the fourth of seven children born to her parents. Her siblings included four sisters and two brothers. She was raised and educated in South Korea. In 1977, she emigrated to the United States and later became a naturalized citizen.
In the late 1970’s, Sunik met Aldeen McGhee. The couple fell in love and married in 1980. The McGhees settled in Vallejo, California, and in the late 1980’s joined Christ Temple Church where they gave their hearts to God and were baptized in 1990. They later became founding members of Calvary Community Church of Vallejo where Brother McGhee was ordained as a deacon and Sister McGhee became a deaconess. Together, the couple became a living testimony of their Christian faith and devoted themselves to an exemplary ministry of service within Calvary Community Church and beyond.
Sister McGhee (affectionately called “Sukie”) grew into a devout follower of Christ and was loyal to her beliefs with every bit of her strength. She was very compassionate and giving, and quietly took on any task behind the scenes to make a positive difference –not only within the church building, but also in the lives of her church family. In addition to serving as a Deaconess, she once sang in the Women’s Choir and served for many years as an usher. In her private life, she loved gardening, cooking and baking, and had a passion for dogs!
Sister “Sukie” McGhee fought a valiant battle with an extended illness. During this season, she was a living testimony to God’s abundant mercy and grace, and in the early morning on March 6, 2021, He took her home.
Her parents and brothers preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted husband, Deacon Aldeen McGhee; four sisters in South Korea; step-daughters Margie Morrison of Livermore, California, and Linda Peterson of Lawrenceville, Georgia; granddaughters Shakira and Keyonna Peterson; best friend Jae Choi Thomas; her Calvary Community Church family, and a host of other relatives and friends. Although we will miss our dear sister in Christ, we know that she completed her journey and is present with her Lord!

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his faithful servants.” –Psalm 116:15
