Dr. Suhail and Maha were dear and close friends of ours when we lived in Saint Louis MO from 2001 to 2009. We came into town to join our son but knew no one else there. When we first met Suhail and Maha at the Maronite church in Saint Louis, they immediately opened their hearts to us and received us with such kindness, compassion and love. From that point on and for close to eight years, we became inseparable. We spent great times together, sharing old memories of the city and country where we and Suhail's wife Maha grew up and where Dr. Suhail went to college. Dr. Suhail and his wife Maha were two of the most loving, caring and compassionate people we have ever met, they enveloped us with their love kindness and helped us feel right at home in our first adopted city in the states, Saint Louis, MO. We will fondly remember the many great times we spent together and will never forget when Suhail and Maha gathered all our mutual friends in one last memorable farewell party for us the night before we departed Saint Louis permanently to join our son and his family in Portland, OR.

We are so saddened and heart broken by Suhail's sudden passing and are at loss for words in describing our grave sense of grief and loss. We pray to the Lord for his soul, our hearts go out to his wife Maha, his son Zaidoon and the rest of his family.

On behalf of my Parents Adel and Jacklin Ghazala

Dear Maha, Zaidoon and Family,

Please accept my sincere condolences in the loss of your beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother.  May God grant you strength to endure this difficult time and may you find peace and solace among friends and family.  Suhail's spirit lives on in all who he touched throughout his life.  He was elegant, intelligent, giving and lit up a room with his presence.

With Love and Sympathy,

Isha

My husband and I came to the US to pursue our education,  new to the country with no support  what so ever. As Suhail once said the best wish you can give to someone is “ may God put good people in your way”  and that’s what happened to us God put  Suhail and Maha in our life, they opened their house and hearts for us, they gave us the support we direly needed, they were our best friends and we spent many evenings at their beautiful  house chatting, laughing and listening to their honest advice, interesting stories, learning from them as successful people, role models and genuine  people. My son spent quite a bit of his baby years playing cars in their living room.

Dr Suhail was a professor who authored books, an inventor and a clinician but behind all that a genuine human being. He has good taste in music and art, he loved “ Fareed El Attrash” and appreciated beauty and always shared his passion with others.

Dr Suhail gave me the opportunity to work with him at his office and watch him treating his patients. I teared up yesterday when I asked my patient to “ turn my way”… that’s his sentence… that I still use 20 years later. He was a mentor and a role model. When I got accepted into residency he was the first supporter.. he enjoyed helping people and watch them find their path. Not a week passes without us repeating some of his phrases, some funny and some words of wisdom, when making big decisions  we quote him             saying: " ان شرّقت مشمش و ان غرّبت تفاح" which means “you won’t go wrong either way will work for you”

We are extremely sad that we won’t be able to see you again Suhail, but what more blessing a person needs to depart this earth, impacted so many lives, leaving behind such a legacy of kindness and good deeds and that’s what last forever!

Maha and Zaidoun and grandchildren whom he loved so much , can’t express enough our condolences to you, we hope to see you soon.

It is with sad heart and tearing eyes that we say goodbye to Suhail, a dear friend. There is a lot to remember about a wonderful person that we knew for so many years. We dined, chatted, traveled and joked together. He always yearned and talked with nostalgia about to his childhood years in Altybeh and his college days in Baghdad. His love for his family and homeland was unmistakable; he even had a dictionary for the colloquial words used in irbid. Once, we traveled together as speakers at a medical conference in Jordan; he was so enthusiastic about giving back to his native country. He has a big generous heart, and he and Maha are always receiving and hosting people. His love for Zaydoun and his grandchildren is limitless. I still remember the poem that he recited at Zaydoun wedding and how touching it was. I could see the luster in his eyes when he talked about his grandchildren and eventually moved from St. Louis to DC, just to be around them. I will never forget our last conversation over FaceTime; despite his illness, he was still smiling, joking, and exuding happiness. Our life will not be the same without Suhail. Goodbye my friend; you left us with a sorrow in our hearts. We will miss you. Our deepest sympathy to Maha and the family for their great loss.
