Sue's obituary
(Marie) Sue Montgomery passed away on October 3rd, 2024, after a long illness, in Missoula, Montana.
Born in Durant, Oklahoma in 1947 to Wendell Montgomery and Dorothy Bays, Sue moved extensively due to her father’s Navy career and lived in Texas and Oklahoma for much of her youth. A lifelong learner, Sue Montgomery studied at University of Texas–Austin before transferring to Long Island University–Brooklyn and continuing at Columbia University.
Her career began as an English teacher, where she met her husband, Randall Perham, in the neighboring classroom. After years of teaching, she received her Masters of Social Work and served as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in three states, specializing in the support of troubled teenagers. Her training, and in her words, her “nosiness,” allowed her to both work with her clients and befriend anyone she met–no matter where she traveled or lived.
Sue passed the same night as her late husband Randall Perham, and is predeceased by her parents, Wendell Montgomery and Dorothy Bays, and her closest friend Seymour Kleinberg. She is survived by her daughters Alison Montgomery and Audrey Montgomery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to her preferred organization, The Freedom from Religion Foundation, may be made in her memory.
