Steven's obituary

Written with love by Uncle Dan

✨ In Loving Memory of Steven A. Wiley 💖✨

With a heavy heart, I share the bittersweet news of my wonderful friend, Steve, who departed from our lives on January 20, 2026. Steve was so much more than a beloved son, husband, father, and steadfast friend; his radiant spirit illuminated the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing him. 🌟💕

Our beautiful journey began back in September 1973 at the Tinley Park High School drama club, where an extraordinary friendship blossomed between shy little me, the magnificent Vicki Boersma—who would become his cherished wife—and our dear friend, Wendy Harden. Together, we formed a treasure trove of memories spanning over 50 years, woven with laughter and joy.

After high school, Steve chased his dream in the world of technology at DeVry Institute in Elgin. His adventurous spirit took him across the pond to England, where he embraced the wonders of Europe. Yet, his heart always found its way back to Tinley Park, where our friendship steadfastly thrived.

Life orchestrated a beautiful reunion for Steve and Vicki, proving that true love can conquer any distance or challenge. Their loving union brought forth the joy of nurturing three incredible children: Christopher, Sarah, and Daniel, a shining tribute to our unbreakable bond.

For over 50 years, I have been blessed to be enveloped by Steve's loving family. Our monthly gatherings in Aurora were heartwarming celebrations filled with laughter, warmth, and kindness that only Steve could share. Each moment we spent together was a cherished gift.

The past year was an uphill battle as Steve bravely confronted cancer with grace and strength. The news hit hard, profoundly challenging both him and Vicki. Just as they were embarking on new adventures, fate threw a curveball with an unexpected early retirement, leaving their dreams in disarray.

Yet, amid the shadows of depression and anxiety, they transformed their pain into precious moments together. Embracing life’s uncertainty, they crafted beautiful memories until the very end.

Reflecting on Steve's life, I realize that our paths are guided by forces beyond our comprehension—be it a divine being or the universe itself. Regardless of the trials, Steve’s vibrant spirit shone through—he was a passionate explorer, a dedicated worker, and a true lover of life!

In our final conversations, he expressed a profound regret: wishing he had spent more moments with those he cherished most—Vicki and their beautiful children. Today, as my heart mourns for my dearest friend, I embrace Vicki, Christopher, Sarah, and Daniel—who will forever hold a special place in my heart.

To Sarah, who embodies her father's adventurous spirit, living life to the fullest and traveling with her wonderful husband, Mike, in Amsterdam; to Daniel and his partner, Jordan, carving their niche in Iowa; and to Christopher and his wife, Alex, along with Steve's two beautiful grandchildren, Avery and Bennett, who will grow up without truly knowing the wonderful grandfather they have lost.

To the three of you, my deepest condolences come from your “Guncle” Dan. I promise to always be here, not to replace your dad but to remind you of his immense love.

As I say my goodbyes to Steve, my heart swells with prayers for him. May angels guide him to his eternal home, where he will rest in the loving embrace of God.

Steve, you will forever dwell in my heart, and your spirit will illuminate my path as I treasure the laughter and love you brought into my life.

I love you dearly, my friend. You will be profoundly missed. Thank you for the memories and the beautiful bond we shared. Until we meet again in the stars.
