Steven Alan Weiner, USCG Retired January 6, 1943 – January 29, 2026
Steven Alan Weiner, Senior Chief Petty Officer, United States Coast Guard (Retired), passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026, at the age of 83 years old.
Devoted husband, father and grandfather,
Steven is survived by his Beloved wife of 62 years Esther Diane Weiner;
His devoted children Spencer, Sarah, and David;
His cherished grandchildren; Tehila, Orah, Rebecca, Bridget, Michael, Nathan, Vajra Sky, and his adored great-grandchildren; Olivia, August, and Cooper.
Born in Newark, New Jersey, Steven enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard at 17, after attending Weequahic HS, beginning a distinguished 26-year career from 1961 to 1988. During his service, he rose to the esteemed rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer.
After retirement he spent countless hours in his workshop creating beautiful heirloom pieces—from toys and keepsakes for his grandchildren to handcrafted furniture pieces admired by all who saw them. Steve was a talented woodworker, master mechanic and skilled handyman, passing these skills onto his children.
He was a Life member of the Handyman Club of America, and Masonic Lodge 209 Hollywood, Florida.
His lifelong pride in his service was evident to all who knew him—he was rarely seen without his beloved USCG Veteran cap and enjoyed striking up conversations with fellow “Coasties.”
A gifted storyteller, with an endless supply from his Coast Guard days & family misadventures. Steven was a bona fide champion of the “ Dad’ Joke.
His humor, warmth, and vivid storytelling will be deeply missed.
Throughout his life, Steven remained devoted to his faith and community, actively supporting Jewish organizations and encouraging his family’s engagement with the divine.
He and Esther shared a love of the outdoors, spending many joyful days camping and traveling across the entire USA several times. Turning each new deployment into memorable cross-country family adventures, first with children and later in their RV during retirement.
In honor of his final wishes Stevens remains will be buried at sea.
A memorial service and Celebration of Life Reception will follow.
