Steve's obituary
Steven “Steve” Webster Thomas, 68, of Buckeye, Arizona, passed away on October 7, 2025. His battle with pancreatic cancer came to an end and he passed away peacefully with his family by his side. Born and raised in Spokane, Washington, Steve carried his love of the Pacific Northwest, and his family and friends that still live there with him.
At 21, Steve met Cathy, and one year later they were married. They shared 29 years of marriage and were blessed with two daughters, Stephanie and Michelle. Cathy and their daughters cared for Steve and were by his side through the end.
Steve worked as a welder and later retired from the United States Postal Service, where his hard work ethic earned the respect of his colleagues and friends. Outside of work, Steve loved spending time outdoors fishing and camping, watching baseball and football (especially cheering on his beloved Seattle Mariners), and enjoyed spending time with his family and his dogs.
An animal lover at heart, Steve had a special way with dogs, they always seemed to know they were safe and loved in his presence. In the last few years of his life he loved to spend time with his daughter’s dogs which he considered to be his grandkids. They brought him so much comfort and entertainment and always made him smile and laugh.
Steve was also known for his sense of humor — always ready with a quick joke, a funny story, or a playful remark to make whoever he was around laugh. Steve loved to make you laugh and his ability to bring smiles and laughter to those around him was one of his most endearing qualities and his greatest pleasures.
Steve spent the last year of his life surrounded by family, moving in with his daughters. He studied the Bible weekly with his best friend Jimmy Leforce. He had an ever growing faith and appreciation for the Bible and particularly loved talking about Gods creations, and saw the beauty in all of them.
In the last year he found out he had an older half brother also named Steve. He was able to meet him on a handful of occasions and he cherished these meetings and his new found relationship with his brother.
After Steve found out about his terminal diagnosis he expressed to his sister Kathy that this last year spent with his family was one of his happiest.
He is survived by his two daughters, Stephanie and Michelle Thomas; his siblings, Valerie Jordan, Kathy Thomas, and Steve Zwetzig; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him deeply.
Steve’s life will be celebrated privately by his family, who take comfort in the memories of laughter, love and generosity he leaves behind.
