Steven Lynn Root, 53, passed away at his home in Eugene, Oregon on October 11, 2023.

Steve was born on November 8, 1969 to Edward Vern Root and Patty Lee Root in Hillsboro, Oregon.

Steve spent many years working in the Union as a Drywall Carpenter thanks to his brother Mike, who introduced him to the trade. He was considered a legend in the area, liked, and respected.

Steve loved being a grandpa to Eddie, playing with toys, making breakfast, and watching Eddie’s shows. He always said, “It’s the best job on earth.” He loved fishing on the Umpqua River with his son, brother, nephew, and friends. In his down time he enjoyed watching football and NASCAR with his son. He was a big hot rod admirer and had many throughout the years.

One of his greatest joys in life was spending time with his family and his family, treasured time with him.

Steve is survived by his son Steve E. Root, daughter-in-law Brittany Root, grandson Steven “Eddie” Root Jr, sister Anne Ware and brothers Otis and Mike Root. Many nieces and nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts, as well as all of those who he considered his chosen family.

Steve and his brother Mike were best friends. Usually if you saw one, the other one was close by, whether it was getting in trouble together, working in the union, or traveling.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Gary Root.

We’ll forever hear among the whispers on the wind “Hey big dummy“ you got this, as well as the many other Steve-isms we’re all familiar with!

He will surely be missed by his family and friends.
