Steven's obituary
Steven was born on October 30, 1958 to Roberta and Vernon Rasch in Portsmouth, New Hampshire; residing in Freeport, Maine. After graduating from Freeport High School, he went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts at Roger Williams University, Bristol, Rhode Island. Steven spent the majority of his life in New York, living in both White Plains and Manhattan.
Steven was predeceased by his father, Vernon Rasch; Godfather and Great Uncle Medley Watson. He is survived by his mother Roberta; Godmother and Great Aunt Ruth Watson; sisters Robin Rasch and Verne Matson; his former wife Linda Rasch; his daughter and son-in law Lauren and Matt Morrell; stepson Eugene Cannata Jr; granddaughters Natalie Morrell and Isabella Cannata; nephews Ben and Lee Matson; Goddaughter Aimee Shevlin. He is also survived by several friends who were like family from Westminster Ridge.
To say Steven lived quite the life is a grave understatement. While he has been taken from us, his legacy, humor, wit, kindness and compassion will live on forever through the lives of everyone he touched. He was always the life of the party and made everyone feel like they belonged. He had a unique way of bringing people together like no one else could. Steven's talents and creativity were innumerable. He began his career in car sales, transitioned to ballroom dance where he was not only an instructor, but a top competitor nationally. He then became involved in interior design and was the Director of Showroom sales for several furniture retailers in Westchester and Manhattan over the course of his career.
Steven was a devoted father and husband. He had the patience of a saint. He was an active parishioner and Eucharistic Minister and Religious Education Instructor at Holy Name of Jesus in Valhalla, NY. He volunteered with the White Plains Beautification Foundation (NY) and the Westchester Food Bank. He loved to sing and dance, he enjoyed traveling, theatre, a good comedy and comedian. He loved taking his family out on the town for dinner and a Broadway show. Most of all, he loved to make people laugh. His humor and talents will certainly live on with his daughter, stepson, and grandchildren.
In honor of his memory (and in lieu of flowers), we ask that any donations be made to HSI NY (www.hsi-ny.org/donate) HSI is where Steven lived the latter years of his life and without this program, facility, and the amazing staff, we would not have had Steven with us as long as we did. The services, programs, and facilities HSI offers are critical to the city and for individuals in a similar position as Steven.
Steven will be missed by many. We hope you have fond memories of the funny, caring man who was always the life of the party. He is now the favorite line of one of his favorite songs, he's a "Spirit in the Sky". He will forever watch over everyone he loved in his life.
*A celebration of life will be planned in his honor. Details to come at a later date.
