I often think of Steve and his wife. He was a wonderful neighbor. His leadership in the community was excellent. He really cared about people. I pray all is well with his wife and other family members.
My deepest condolences to Ostaseski's  family. Very sad to hear about Steve.   I would call Steve as Mr. Ostaseski , I was a Graduate Student in University of Alabama (UAB) from India and worked on a project for Steve when he was at Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham (RPCGB) during 2002-2003.  He was very supportive and I cannot forget the assistance he provided me during my Masters Degree at UAB. Its been more than 20 years that I graduated and worked in different cities in US and moved back to India 10 years back. I cannot forget Steve's support and help.  God Bless the Ostaseski family and strength to overcome his loss.
To the Ostaseski Family, I am so very sorry to learn of Steve's passing.  I worked with Steve at the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT).  One of my fondest memories was a roadtrip to Kentucky with our boss during which Steve facilitated a tour of a popular farm horse farm in Lexington, KY where Seattle Slew was bred. Steve was one of the most intelligent individuals I've ever known. A former boss once said, "Steve can do the work of several individuals".  I'm sure he will be missed. I wish to convey my condolences to his surviving family, friends, and other loved ones. May God continue to bless you all.

Steve and myself go back all the way back to oyster bay.  I was so glad he came to the world of wheels this year in Birmingham.  It was very comforting that we were both re sidents of alabama.  In our youth we shared great adventures together.  I still remember riding his norton atlas.  What a cool bike.  We even drove nonstop to California in his vw bus and spent a .memorable new years in emsenada Mexico.  To a dear friend. You will be greatly missed.  Dan walker
