As the son of a veteran, when I'm fortunate enough to meet another, they immediately have my respect and admiration for their sacrifice. The same level of respect and admiration applies to their spouse for their sacrifices which aren't discussed near enough. The day I spent with him revealed his passion for leadership, teaching and the sincere development of all in his presence. Continued thoughts and prayers for Cartiea, their extended family along with the countless people he impacted so positively at Ferguson and USLBM.

Very sad news to hear. I met Steve at Operations Manager training in October 2022 & he was a great teacher & person. Like others I remember his comments regarding "always be kind to each other". He also encouraged participation from everyone, knowing that learning happens best when everyone interacts with each other & listen to one another. RIP Steve.

A moment in life – a life moment… What seemed a simple assignment, for what was scheduled as a training session – turned in to group of strangers from around the country sharing their life stories. A first ever Power Point presentation – family photos - common themes and threads through most of our lives… Faith – Family – Passion - Dedication – Hard Work… Oh, and some smack-talk Football… A few minutes can make a difference, and the few minutes we were fortunate to share with Steven – we learned of his passion for life, his passion for sharing knowledge, and that he loved to laugh. Keep playing the good music sir... May God bless and comfort Stevens family, his friends, and those whose life he touched.

My condolences to Steven's family. I first met Steven when I attended his public speaking class. Soon after we became fast friends when we traveled together doing a number of Counter Manager Trainings across the country. There were many flights, car rides, sing alongs and Long Island ice teas. I will never forget his laugh and will always think of him when I hear “We talking about practice…” He was a great trainer but also a special person and an amazing friend. He will be missed.

Steven was the type of trainer that everyone wanted to emulate. His passion and exuberance for developing others was apparent in everything he did. I remember attending a training of his many years ago and thinking "I want to have the same impact on those around me." I am a better trainer for knowing him. Rest in peace, Steven.

I worked with Steven at Ferguson for many years. He was one of my favorite trainers to work with! He had a laugh that was unforgettable and an incredible way of connecting with people! I’ll never forget accidentally taking his plate of food at an event and the look on his face then his laugh as I just started digging in with no clue I’d taken his. He will be missed!

I worked with Steven for a long time at Ferguson and then lost touch for a while when I left in 2019. I was excited when I learned that he joined us at US LBM a few years later, not only because of his talent as a trainer, but more so because he was just a great human. A few weeks ago, I attended one of his trainings and we caught up for a drink at the bar and then dinner. The conversation went on for hours and, at some point, Steven looked me in the eye and said I love you man. But if you know Steven, there was nothing disingenuous about it. He then continued to give me specific examples of moments we had together and why he felt that way. THAT was Steven. He said what he meant and he meant what he said. We need more of you, Steven. Rest easy, my friend.

Steven was my first co-worker at Ferguson Enterprises in training and development. He had the most contagious laugh! We had an inside joke and every time he would walk by my office door, we would bust out laughing. He will be greatly missed by so many. I am praying for his family and friends.

Steven was an amazing facilitator and every time I saw him present to a class he always weaved in stories. Many times, he started with a story, but made you wait until the end of the day to hear the conclusion. He was a master storyteller. His humor was also something that just drew you in and put everyone at ease. I know he's soaring now with angels and captivating them all with his stories, smile, and laughter.

I met Steve several times when he was a trainer for Ferguson. He was a fantastic trainer and a lot of fun. I have the pleasure of being the manager of his daughter Cartiea. She seems a lot like him and I am glad I get to work with her. May he rest in peace and may the family celebrate his life and his legacy.

Steven and I were sitting together at the Annual Meeting in March. It was the night of the awards dinner, so we were both dressed in suits, and I was thinking that we looked pretty sharp. Steven and I shared the same (none) hairstyle (I am pictured with him, Anja, and Mark above at a cooking class). So as we were sitting at the table during the banquet, he leaned over to me and said "You know something? We look exactly like a set of salt and pepper shakers. HA HA HA HA HA!!" From that day forward, he called me Salt and I called him Pepper. Thank you for the laughs, my friend. I will miss you!

I am still at a loss of words about Steven's passing. He was such a kind person. He was one of those people that made you feel comfortable around him and welcomed from the first day you met him! He was also humble and so warm with everyone! Rest in peace friend!

I first met Steven at a training event. Having not worked with him before, I was not sure what to expect. What I discovered in that first training (and every one after) was that he showed up as nothing less than his authentic self, and he left space for those around him to do the same.
I was so inspired by him that I asked if he would give me some tips, allow me to sit in on more of his training sessions - he easily agreed, and then went on to give me opportunities, encouragement, and positive feedback that have greatly impacted my approach to people interactions.
Every interaction I had with Steven is colored by humility, humor, and kindness. I am a better person for knowing him.
