The last time I saw Steve was when he was in Saginaw in the hospital and I took mom up to see him. We had the best conversation and laughs with him, talking about old times. Boy did I ever find some things out!!!!!! We had a very fun loving family, especially
when all of the sibs got together and us cousins too...so many laughs!!!!! Dora, I truly loved seeing you two, even though it wasn't often. You and I could relate with our short stature !!!! Sending much love to you both

I am Steve's only sister and a few things I know that I could do to make him happy was my Christmas cookies & getting him some fresh perch when he couldn't catch them himself. The cookies have been going on for years now always meeting in Reese at a pizza place to swap cookies for beef stick we have been doing that for a while. My job includes working with the fishing companies and he knew i could hook him up so I got him a 10 lb box of perch but mt friend also threw in some other goodies for him. I surprised him by telling him to meet me at are usual spot i have a surprise for you and his face was priceless. If anybody knows Steve his passion was catching fish and eating perch. RIP brother you will be missed dearly . Your sister Jackie

We send our heartfelt deepest condolences to Dora, Jonathan, friends and family! My wife and I were extremely shocked to hear of Steve's passing. We've gotten to know Steve, Dora and Jonathan while working the Community Thanksgiving Dinner at the United Methodist Church every Thanksgiving Day. Steve was never afraid to ask what needs to be done and he'd hop right on it without hesitation. Thank you Steve for everything you have done not only for us, but for your community, family and friends. You've touched so many lives and you will be greatly missed! God bless you! We will always remember your laugh, your sense of humor, your hard work and dedication.

I only saw Steve a handful of times in the last 30 years or so. We were always happy to see one another and then oh the stories! He had the best stories about our extended families (we are first cousins) and had the greatest laugh. Thinking of you Dora and Jonathan.

To Steve's family, my thoughts and prayers are with you!

And although I hadn't seen Steve since the 70's in our old Saginaw neighborhood, I felt like we kept in touch through updates from my life long friendship with his younger brother Tim. It was always neat to hear that he was still into music and playing guitar, and that he still loved fishing. I even kind of imagined Steve originally left Saginaw because he figured he'd already fished out the Saginaw River.

Lastly, I will always remember several things about Steve (in addition to the fishing and music). 1-he always treated Tim and our friends so well, even though we were 4 years younger and could be real pests. 2-he never teased us or picked on us like some other older kids might at times, and he was even a bit of a protector for us. 3-AND he really stepped up to take on the coaching our rag-tag little league baseball team where we would've otherwise had to skip playing that summer (a devastating loss for 13-yr olds). And even after seeing our mediocre skill level, he stuck it out for the whole year, and would even drive his old Chevy Vega around to the local neighborhoods to pick up our guys for practices and games.

Steve's kindness and compassion showed up early in life to the Saginaw crew, and we are all saddened for your loss in not having him still by your side sharing all that with you.

One vivid memory I have of my dad as a little kid in the 1980s, was what he'd do in a lightning storm. Whenever there was a warm summer thunderstorm steaming up Cass City, he would grab his acoustic guitar and he'd sit on the front porch and play the Beatles "Rocky Racoon", Peter Paul & Mary's "Bob Dylan's Dream" or Mary Robbin's "El Paso" and other songs. Sometimes mom and I would sing along, sometimes we'd just listen, and sometimes we'd be in and out of the house doing stuff while he softly sang out there on the porch. It was something that he did all the way into my high school days.

My dad ALWAYS gave me a hard time about frosting cookies. Every year since living in Pittsburgh, when I'd come home for Christmas, I'd want to frost them in rainbow colors, so while I'd be busy mixing orange, purple, blue, pink, and yellow frostings, he would make a huge batch of red and green frosting and start plowing through mom's stacks of cookies! We did this every single year. He's say "good luck you see that i'm already frosting" and if I wanted my rainbow cookies i'd have to put the pedal to the metal to beat him and his red-green-white machine of efficiency. He's also just paint them solid colors (usually) while i did slow, fancier designs, and he'd yell at me "you're falling behind, son!" In later years when I got married to my husband I FINALLY HAD BACKUP. This is a tradition with him that I will miss so much.
