When Steve passed (a year ago today) all of his golfing friends (and that was everybody) were sad to not hear much about about his passing, and I never heard much until finding this beautiful 7 minute video I viewed today. All his golf/social buddies at Mooresville Golf Course have missed his presence as a golfer and a friend. Thank you for sharing this tribute! I’m passing it on.
I was 19, sitting poolside at a health club in Crystal River, Fla., when a handsome blond, blue-eyed man swam up to me. He said, “You’re so tan, I look like a tourist from Maine.” I replied that I was from Maine. He said he worked in Boothbay Harbor for a summer during college. I told him I was from Old Orchard Beach. He asked what I was studying. I said nuclear power plants. He said he worked in a coal-fired plant. After answering some questions about power generation, he asked me to dinner. My neurotic self immediately told him I was on a diet. He said, “You don’t look like you need to be on a diet. Let’s go anyway.” We did. He had the fried shrimp and french fries; I had the sautéed oysters and a baked potato. We spent the next 18 years together.
