Steve's obituary
Steve Becker 11/11/1956 – 07/15/2024
Steve Becker went home to be with the Lord he loved for so many years on 15th July 2024. He was at home when this happened. This was shocking for his family and friends as he was a very active, healthy man of only 67. We will know more about what happened to him once the autopsy report comes back, but the preliminary report says it was a massive heart attack.
Steve was a wonderful husband to Marianne for almost 41 years, father of three boys (Andrew, Matt, and Tim), father-in-love of two daughters (Stephanie and Naomi), grandfather of two grandsons (Gabe Dee and Ethan Becker) and two granddaughters (Lilyana Salazar and Emily Becker) and brother to three siblings (Mark Becker, Coco Yackley (Kelley), Shelly Cornelius (Derek). We already feel the hole that his presence being gone has left.
My heart is broken, and I am struggling to process this great tragedy. We are overwhelmed by the love of those Steve touched during his life. He got his BA in computer sciences from UNCC in 1985 and began his career with Computer Sciences Corporation in Petersburg, VA. Steve then went to work for Hercules Alleghany Ballistics Laboratory in Rocket Center, WV. In 1990, he started working for SAS, Cary, NC. Steve worked there for almost 30 years. His love of Jesus Christ reached far and wide through any location he lived or worked.
In 1992, Steve and a friend from SAS began an evangelism work called Upward Bound. Through this, they saw many brought to Christ. It was also through this ministry that he would say he was tricked into finding his freedom in Christ. In 1996, A friend in Raleigh, NC introduced Steve and Marianne to Freedom in Christ Ministries.
For the last 28 years, Steve & Marianne have worked with Freedom in Christ Ministries and helped many find their freedom in Christ through classes, seminars, Transform and one-on-one appointments. Steve and Marianne hosted a Living Free in Christ conference at their church in Raleigh, NC. They traveled with Neil Anderson and Rich Miller to teach the Helping Others Find Freedom in Christ part of the Living Free in Christ and Breaking the Chains conferences in the early 2000s. They took a break from ministry to focus on launching their boys into adulthood. When they returned to ministry, they jumped in and started helping at Community Freedom Ministry Practicums. In early 2015, they took on the role of Northwest Regional Directors and traveled often to Seattle, Portland and Helena to meet with the ministry associates in their region.
In 2016, Steve & Marianne was asked to develop the Care and Training part of the ministry. Steve was also asked to join the board and became the liaison for Care and Training. Steve was then asked to become the National Director of Expansion. Steve, Marianne, and Jill Prout helped Rich develop the National Leadership Team for Freedom in Christ. He transitioned to Area Director for North America and the Caribbean in 2018. After Marianne’s accident, Steve transitioned to working on the Quantum Leap platform for Freedom in Christ International. He stepped back from that in 2020 and put his focus on Transform. Steve and Marianne have been involved in almost every Transform since its beginning in 2017.
Since 2018, Steve has been involved with and working with Deeper Walk International. He took most of the classes offered and then began helping host and teach classes. He loved brain science, especially after Marianne’s traumatic brain injury.
Steve joined the board of the local Loaves and Fishes Ministry in Canon City. He was also involved in Faith over Fear, New Creation Inn, and Freedom for Fremont. He enjoyed giving his time to those ministries. Steve loved all of the ministries that he was involved in and was always happy to share his love of Christ with anyone. His latest conversations/speaking occasions were about brain science, freedom in Christ, the cosmos, or SAS.
Steve loved playing with his grandchildren. He was also very competitive in any game or sport, even with his kids and grandkids! Steve loved hiking the beautiful Colorado mountains with Marianne. He also loved bike riding, had just purchased an e-bike, and enjoyed touring Canon City, where we lived in the last few years. Steve and Marianne loved traveling and, thankfully, had been to many European countries, the Caribbean, Australia, and New Zealand. They were able to go to the Holy Land and loved every minute of it. He also had been collecting coins since he was young and turned them into a game for his kids and grandkids. But Steve’s favorite thing lately was working on our property northwest of Canon City with his tractor!
