Steve's obituary

Steven “Steve” Proud Coles was born on March 17, 1961 to Mildred and Von Coles in Casper, Wyoming. He became an Eagle Scout. He attended Nederland and Hamshire-Fannett High Schools, lettering in football, excelling in basketball, throwing discus, and participated in one-act play, before graduating in 1979.

In 1984 Steve went to Texas State Technical Institute (TSTI) in Waco, TX to study Dental Laboratory Technology. He was skilled with his hands and was a Dental Laboratory technician for over 30 years. He was a voracious reader and enjoyed mystery, history, biographical and fiction books. He was a lover of music, a singer himself, and appreciated a range of music styles. His favorite types of music were classic country, heavy metal, and broadway musicals.

He married the love of his life, Laurie Walker in 1986 and had 33 wonderful years of marriage with her on this earth. He was a loving father to Christine and Alex and always encouraged and supported them in anything they did, but especially music endeavors.

Steve is preceded in death by his niece “Becca” Morelan Marra and great-niece Vivian Hill. He is survived by his parents Von Coles and wife Florence, mother Mildred Moores and husband Wayne, wife Laurie Coles, daughter Christine Cox and husband Kase, son Alex Coles, brother Kevin Coles and wife Daphne, brother Eric Coles and wife Jennifer, step-sister Staci Winters, brother-in-law Benjamin Walker, brother-in-law Michael Walker and wife Tammie, 13 nieces and nephews, 17 great-nieces and nephews, and numerous others.

Steve will be remembered as a “gentle giant” that took care of others and loved his family as well as friends as if they were family.
