Stephen's obituary
Stephen Karl York, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025, at the age of 64. Born on December 31, 1960, Stephen lived a life full of fun and adventure, joy and love.
Stephen was known for his big heart, strong spirit and infectious smile.
He brought joy to those around him with his quick wit, no-nonsense humor, and just the right amount of sass to keep everyone on their toes. Whether he was fixing doors, building something with his hands, or cracking a joke at exactly the right moment with best laugh, Stephen had a way of making people feel both welcome and entertained. To his loved ones, he was not only a steady guide and a strong protector, but also the kind of dad who reminded everyone to laugh, to love, and to enjoy the little things, to take a break—even when life got messy.
Stephen’s legacy lives on in the many lives he touched with his stubborn charm, humor, and love. Friends and family will remember him for his big laugh, the way kids and animals were instantly drawn to him, and how he always knew when to be serious and when to lighten the mood. He gave his all—to his family, his work, and friends lucky enough to know him—and that love will never fade.
He is survived by his family, who will forever hold his memory close: Wife, Cheryl York nee Myszenski, Children, Kalynn York, Sarah York, Gillion York, and Grandchild, Peyton York. His Siblings, Mark York (Anne York nee Blackford), Frank York (Michele York nee Kotenko), and Allen Kotcher (Dawn Kotcher nee Prince). Stephen was preceded in death by Father, Lawrence Jesse York (Beverly York nee Baird), Mother, Betty Kotcher nee York nee Hawkins (James Kotcher), and Sister, Patrica Ann Burkett nee York.
His family and friends will always remember him for his laughter, his wisdom, and the immeasurable love he gave.
A celebration of Stephen’s life will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Resurrection Cemetery at 1:30 PM. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance, sharing stories and honouring the incredible man he was.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the memorial.
Though Stephen is no longer with us, his love and memory will never fade. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
