Stephen's obituary

SSG Stephen Tingley Anderson passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, surrounded by love and family, after a courageous, multi-year battle with prostate cancer. A proud Vietnam War veteran, Stephen dedicated his life to serving his country and, most importantly, veterans—both those who served alongside him and the many generations of veterans who came after.

Stephen spent his entire professional career with the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA), where his work was never just a job—it was his life’s mission. Even after retirement, he continued tirelessly advocating for veterans, ensuring they were aware of and able to access the resources they deserved. His passion for service, fairness, and care for others left a lasting impact on countless lives.

He was a devoted father to his three daughters, Jessica (Robert) Tanner, Chelsea (Christian) Flynn-Garcia, and Melanie (Michael) Shaffer, a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Vivian, Carter, Violet, Vincent, and Lucas, and a brother to Tony (Ruby) Anderson, and Betsy (Mark) Davis. His legacy lives on especially through his grandson Lucas, who carries Stephen’s namesake as his middle name.

In his younger years, Stephen was known as the life of the party. Always ready for a good time, laughter, and music. He especially cherished memories spent dancing with his late wife, Linda, to their favorite bands, including Pocket Change. He loved the beach and treasured the years he and Linda spent traveling together in their RV, creating memories along the way.

Stephen was a truly great man. He made a difference in more lives than he ever realized. While his absence is deeply felt, there is comfort in knowing he is now reunited with Linda and at peace.

His family is dedicated to ensuring his memory lives on and will continue the work he was so passionate about in serving and supporting veterans.

Funeral arrangements and service details will be circulated on this memorial page as they become available.
