Stephen's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen Henry Smith. He was born on September 3, 1948 and passed away peacefully on January 22, 2024.
A man of many virtues, Stephen was frequently described as a 'gentle giant’. His persona was as welcoming and warm as it was towering. He had a rare ability to make those around him feel at ease, often teaching the values of patience, diligence, and financial responsibility through his own actions, demonstrating the true value of leading by example.
With the heart and hands of a working man, Stephen had an admirable work ethic that led to a successful tenure at Lubrizol. Yet, it was not just in the professional world that Stephen's competence and passion shone. He also took joy in fixing and maintaining cars, with the purchase and restoration of his Corvette and Ranchero being notable achievements. But perhaps the greatest testament to Stephen's diligence and patience was the painstaking renovation of his New York home, turning it into a place of comfort and contentment.
Stephen's legacy will forever be remembered in terms of his honesty, strength, and kindness. These are the values he stood for and passed on to those close to him. He loved his dog RACS, a testament to his gentle spirit and the nurturing environment he always sought to create around him. He loved to sit by the fire and smoke his cigar with RACS at his side.
Surviving him are his beloved children, Ryan Smith and Amy Poremba, daughter-in- law, Donna Moretti and companion Linda Gorski, who will carry forward his life lessons and keep his memory alive. He was preceded in death by his mother Beatrice Smith and ex-wife Carrie Smith.
As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate the rich and full life that Stephen lived. His lessons, accomplishments and values will continue to live on through those who had the privilege of knowing him.
