Stephen's obituary

Stephen Rothman was born in the Bronx, New York in 1944. He was a graduate of Dewitt Clinton High School, class of 1961. He started his postsecondary education at Hunter College, ultimately graduating from Farleigh Dickenson University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry in 1967. He returned to Fairleigh Dickinson, earning a Masters in Business Administration in 1975. He had a diversity of professional experiences, including working in quality assurance and regulatory affairs in the pharmaceutical industry. He also taught chemistry in New York City and Hackettstown, NJ.

Stephen was a man of many talents and interests. He played the saxophone, could dance the lindy, and was handy around the house. Stephen had a love of trains and knew the New York City subway system inside and out. He told stories that made people laugh with hysteria. He had an arsenal of sharp one-liners that will survive for generations.

In 1986, Stephen suffered the loss of his youngest child, Jacob. A loving father and emotional man, he struggled with his grief. Yet, he was a force of nature, and his family would survive and thrive in the wake of this tragedy. He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Susan, and his sons Gabriel and Gerome. The burial service will take place at Mt. Freedom Hebrew Cemetery in Randolph, NJ on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at 11:00am with a short reception to follow at 1:30pm at The Gashie Loft (50 NJ-10 2C) in East Hanover, NJ.
