Stephen's obituary
Stephen John Raymond Nykolyn, 53, of Calgary Alberta passed away peacefully on February 25,2023 at the Foothills Hospital.
Stephen, was born on November 24th, 1969 to Nicholas and Audrey Nykolyn in Hamilton, Ontario. Raised in Smithville, Ontario until 1985, then moved with Family to Brantford, Ontario. After Stephen graduated from North Park Collegiate and Vocational School in 1989, he went on to study Business Management at Centennial College in Toronto, Ontario.
After graduating with a diploma in Business Management, he started his first job at Ernst & Young, then transferred to Calgary, Alberta kickstarting a 30 year career in Business Development, Marketing & Communications.
In 1998, Stephen met Heidi Sebastian in Calgary, Alberta. Stephen and Heidi were married in 1999 and continued to raise Heidi’s children Samantha Bridger and Zach Bridger. Stephen was a wonderful father and made many fond memories with Sam and Zach.
Stephen was an avid drummer. From an early age, Stephen had a strong passion for music and playing the drums. He had the opportunity to be part of the Calgary Music scence and had the privilege to play with many great musicians and artists. He had made many connections and close friends and will be surely be missed by those who had the opportunity to play with him. Growing up, Stephen also played basketball throughout his school years. In 1998, Stephen trained and ran in the Honolulu Marathon. For many years Stephen was a member at the YMCA and Westside Recreation Centre. Stephen also over the past decade, enjoyed playing golf.
Stephen was predeceased by Eunice Clarke (Grandma), Jack and Katherine Nykolyn (Dida and Baba), Mary MacDonald née Nykolyn (Aunt), Nicholas Nykolyn (father), Michael Nykolyn (Brother) and Maksym Nykolyn (nephew).
He is survived by wife Heidi Nykolyn nee Sebastian, daughter Samantha (Andrew) Bridger-Vernon, grandchildren Micah Vernon and Judah Vernon, son Zach (Alex) Bridger, mother Audrey Nykolyn née Clarke, brother Wes (Rose) Nykolyn, nephew Nil Potestad and niece Cassandra Potestad.
