(Stephen) Andrew's obituary
Stephen Andrew "Morty" Morton IV passed away suddenly on September 25th, 2025, in his home in Laurel, Maryland. Andrew was born on May 3, 1983, in Portsmouth, VA. He is survived by his parents, Stephen A. Morton III and Camilla Morton, his Sister, Kate Morris, his Brother-in-Law, Chris Morris, and his Niece, Mae Morris.
Andrew was a warm and big-hearted person who cared deeply for and fiercely defended his family and friends. He was often travelling for work as a sound engineer for EventEQ, but found joy in coordinating his flight schedules to drop in on family and friends whenever possible (pre-planned, of course!), especially (but not only) if he was close to the next loyalty tier!
Andrew, or Morty, as some may have known him, developed a love for live sound engineering in high school, where he was active in the audio-visual crew for his school’s theater program, as well as with live sound production for church youth group events. I must also include an honorable mention for his dedication to fine-tuning any sound equipment used by his family, including the cars. What followed included a progression from amateur to professional as he earned an Associates in Communications and Media Studies (Radio Concentration) from Montgomery College and began working as a stage hand for the Patriot Center, then for Maryland Sound International, followed by All Stage & Sound, and finally, what ended up as his final professional home of over 17 (almost 18) years, EventEQ.
Andrew was more than just a passionate sound engineer and coworker. He was a loving son, big brother, and friend. He enjoyed watching movies and TV shows and amassed an amazing collection of them. He loved the deepest bass singers he could find, not just to show off his speaker setup. Andrew loved laughing until he cried and then laughing some more. He loved being there for his friends in both good times and bad.
He really loved sleeping.
Andrew has left us much too soon, but leaves us with a legacy of love, friendship, and laughter. And excellent sound quality with zero interference.
A funeral celebrating Andrew's life will be held on October 8, 2025, at the St. Rose of Lima parish (in the big church) in Gaithersburg, MD, at 11 am with a visitation at 10 am. Burial to follow in the St. Rose Cemetery. No reception is planned at this time.
