Stephen's obituary
Stephen George Marks of Thousand Oaks, CA passed away the morning of February 13, 2022 in Los Angeles, CA after a three-year journey battling the effects of non-pressure & obstructive hydrocephalus, seizure disorder, as well as prostate cancer, eventually passing from cardiac arrest and probable pulmonary embolism while in rehab after brain surgery.
At the time of his passing, Stephen was the long-time owner and sole-proprietor of both Oaks Clocks, Thousand Oaks where he happily kept all kinds of clocks ticking as well as Inpunch Employee Timekeeping where he helped employers track their employee’s work hours.
Stephen was born in Buffalo, NY but came to California as a teenager with his mother and younger sister. He later went on to attend classes at Santa Monica City College, College of the Canyons and UCLAextension, taking coursework in electronics and eventually earning a BS degree in Organizational Leadership from Biola University.
Stephen was a lifetime musician as well as a student of music, playing both the trombone as well as the euphonium, in more bands than can be named. There was always a practice or performance to attend. He was always up for playing anywhere new, or subbing whenever asked, from Orange County to Santa Barbara County and everywhere in between. This included 10+ years playing in Tuba Christmas LA.
Anyone who spent time with Stephen knew of his incredible love for food—cultural adventures as he often called them! During any outing or road trip he was always on the lookout for the restaurant, or food stand, or even a hole in the wall that had a line—his definitive answer to “the food must be good, they’ve got plenty of customers.” He also had a love for a great cup of coffee and dessert—he knew of all the best places in LA and nearby environs. Solvang was a favorite place to visit—for the cuckoo clock shops—as well as the obvious reasons of coffee and baked goods!
Stephen is survived by his daughter Emily Marks Cook (Nate) of Hermosa Beach, CA., brother Dr. Donald H. Marks (Diane) of Wharton, New Jersey, and sister Sharon Niles (Lee) of Long Beach, CA., as well as three nephews, a niece, their spouses and children, as well as several treasured cousins. Stephen was preceded in death by his cherished son Gabriel as well as his parents, Richard & Dorothy Marks.
