Steve's obituary

Stephen Myers Liebert, 70, of Hillsville, Virginia, died unexpectedly on October 19, 2020, from heart and pulmonary failure following a vascular surgery procedure on October 16. His loss was completely unexpected and the family is shocked and deeply saddened.

Steve was born on April 2, 1950, to Ruth and Joseph Liebert in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Adolpho Camarillo High School in Camarillo, California, and was passionate about his studies and baseball. After graduating high school, he attended University of Washington in Seattle and then transferred to Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, North Carolina, where he earned an MBA.

Steve moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where he worked in Banking and Finance and also began his interest in carpentry. He decided to own a deck building business and eventually became a remodeling contractor. He recently retired and especially enjoyed honing his woodworking skills, following sports and spending winters in Florida.

Steve is survived by his sister, Julie Liebert Dornberger in Winston Salem, North Carolina, and his nephew, John Zachary Dornberger in Baltimore, Maryland. He is also survived by a loving extended family on both the Liebert and Myers sides whose aunts, uncles and cousins have enjoyed his visits over the years.

Anyone who knew Steve, knew that he had a kind heart, a strong sense of independence and a dauntless determination. His family and friends will miss him more than words can say. He deeply loved his family and valued and stayed in touch with friends from his youth in California, those from college and his professional life in North Carolina, and especially treasured his local friends in Virginia he met while living at Grassy Creek Farm.

Contributions in memory of Steve can be made to One Special Christmas a local volunteer organization that held a dear place in his heart. They provide a special Christmas once in a child’s life.
