Stephen's obituary

Stephen Foster Kemp, age 42, of Irondale, Alabama, passed away on April 2, 2025. Born on December 10, 1982, Stephen was known for his humor and outgoing personality, which brought joy and laughter to all who knew him.

Stephen leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his mother, Kathryn Mitchell; father, James Kemp (Tammy); daughter, Ashton; son, Peter; aunts, Bobbie Compton (Steven) and Denise Holsclaw (Robert); grandmother, Mary Rhode (Bill); grandfather, Dennis Mitchell; and many cousins and their children. He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Mary “Addie” Mitchell, and his uncle, Jason Mitchell.

Throughout his life, Stephen pursued a variety of interests that reflected his vibrant spirit. He was an avid sports card collector and had a passion for cooking, often found creating delicious meals in the kitchen. Stephen also enjoyed his high school days playing baseball and participating in the marching band. His favorite superhero was Superman, which mirrored his own desire to always be helpful and heroic to those around him.

A Celebration of Life — in the form of a cook out — will be held at Oak Mountain State Park at the Magnolia Sycamore Pavilion at 11 am Monday April 7, 2025 where friends and family will gather to honor Stephen's memory through shared stories and cherished moments. The family asks for you to bring your favorite dish in lieu of any flowers and donations.
