Steve's obituary

Stephen “Steve” Joseph Flood, age 63, passed away unexpectedly on April 6th, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospital following a stroke. Born on June 15, 1961, in Waukesha, Wisconsin, Steve spent much of his life in Wisconsin, including the last decade in New Berlin. He also lived in Georgia for many years, where he made lasting memories and friendships.

In his early years, he worked at Spancrete, and later, during his time in Georgia, he applied his mechanical expertise at Siemens. Steve also spent a good amount of time working construction and home restoration, working as a construction manager—a role that perfectly suited his practical skills and attention to detail.

Outside of work, he was happiest hunting, riding his four-wheeler, gardening, and helping family, friends, and neighbors with any project that needed doing—indoors or out. Whether it was plowing snow, cutting trees, or just lending a hand with home repairs, Steve was always ready to show up and help.

He was known for his love of the outdoors, his chickens and garden, and his joy in sharing stories—often over a cold beer in his garage. Friends remember him for his adventurous spirit, time spent on ATV trails, bonfires, and sometimes having a little too much fun. One neighbor shared, “I used to stop by on my way home from work, and he would always have a chair, a cold beer, and stories to tell."

Steve was a proud and playful grandfather, affectionately known as “Poppy” to his grandchildren. He found endless joy in their laughter and loved being part of their adventures. Some of their fondest memories include outings to the State Fair, cheering at Brewers and Bucks games, tending to the chickens, and four-wheeling. Poppy had a special way of making ordinary moments unforgettable, and the bond he shared with his grandkids brought him true happiness.

Steve is survived by his children: Jason Flood (Diane), and their sons Andrew and James; Andrea Flood, and her children Rachael, Noah, and Arielle; and the memory of his son Brian Flood, who passed in 2021. Steve shared a special bond with Brian’s daughter, Kalli Flood, whom he helped raise from toddlerhood through her early teenage years. He is also survived by his siblings, William “Billy” Flood Jr. and Susan “Susie” McGavock; his nieces and nephews, Cassie McGavock, Nikki McGavock, Danny McGavock, and Justin Flood; and his great-niece, Mya McGavock. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Vivian Flood, and his brother, Michael “Mike” Flood.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 26 at 2:30 PM at Cesarz, Charapata & Zinnecker Funeral Home, 237 N Moreland Blvd, Waukesha, WI. A gathering with light refreshments will follow, where family and friends are invited to share stories and celebrate Steve’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to assist with unexpected funeral costs. Contributions can be made at https://everloved.com/life-of… . The family is deeply grateful for the kindness and support shown during this difficult time.

Steve will be remembered for his generosity, his laughter, and the way he showed up for his family and friends. He will be deeply missed.
