Steve was the kind of friend who made life more fun just by being part of it. We were blessed to share so many unforgettable adventures with him—floating in a hot air balloon in Egypt, riding a cogwheel train in Switzerland, hiking through the stunning landscapes of New Zealand, and traveling to New Orleans and Memphis.
While in Memphis, we visited Graceland, and Steve’s love for Elvis was legendary. Having been there countless times, he proudly became our personal tour guide, sharing stories and making sure we saw everything. By the end, we were fairly certain he knew Graceland better than some of the staff! Each of these experiences is a treasure, and remembering them brings both tears of joy and gratitude for the many years we were fortunate to share with him.
Steve and Frank shared a special kind of friendship, full of laughter, teasing, and endless challenges over movie and music trivia. Sometimes they would laugh so hard that both of them would cry. They could go back and forth for hours. For years, Steve volunteered to help Frank with Toys for Tots. One year they had an extra box, Steve thought it would be a good idea to just drop it off at an unknown business just because. Later, they had to go retrieve it. The last time we saw Steve, he brought his famous shrimp ring to Christmas dinner, a tradition we could always count on. Steve was known for his lack of love for vegetables, As always, he made sure to remove or cover up any green on his plate, remarking about his “non-love” of vegetables.
Steve brought humor, warmth, and great stories wherever he went, and we will always treasure the memories we shared with him. He meant so much to us and will be deeply missed. He had a profound love for his family and delighted in sharing stories and pictures over the years. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his beloved family during this difficult time.
We are sad that we cannot attend his Celebration of Life in the Bronx, however, a few neighbors are getting together for a tribute to him. Whenever anyone asked him, “Hey Steve, where do you want to go for lunch?” he always said, “Pizzettas!” In his honor, we are celebrating Steve at Pizzettas with his favorite pizza and a beer, toasting to his life and the joy he brought to all of us.
