Stevie D's obituary

Stephen Theodore Dowling, 1962-2025
Stephen Theodore Dowling, aka Stevie D, beloved father, son, brother, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2025, at the age of 63. Born on June 21, 1962, Stephen lived a life marked by skilled craftsmanship, an adventurous spirit, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
Stephen was a renowned Master Carpenter, a title he earned through decades of dedication and natural talent. His hands transformed raw wood into pieces of beautifully crafted art. He approached every project with precision and passion, leaving behind a tangible legacy of quality and skill that will endure.
Outside of his workshop, Stephen embraced life with enthusiasm. He had a deep passion for motorcycles and the open road, a love for music—particularly the improvisational spirit of the Grateful Dead—and an endless appetite for traveling. He was an encyclopedia of knowledge with a fierce love for history, often found diving into a new subject or sharing an obscure historical fact.
Known for being outgoing and never shy about his beliefs, Stephen was opinionated and always ready to champion the topics and people closest to his heart. Yet, above all else, Stephen was defined by his loyalty to his family. For Stephen, family meant everything. No matter the distance or the discontent, he was always there, offering support, presence, and unconditional love.
He is survived by his loving children, Stephen J. Dowling and Katherine Dowling, and his stepdaughter, Taylor Newport. He leaves behind his devoted mother, Gertrude Dowling, his brother Pat (Julie) Dowling and his sister Kim (Jack) Bowman Stephen’s legacy lives on through his three cherished grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Stephen’s vibrant presence, booming laughter, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him
