Stephen's obituary

In Loving Memory of Stephen Wayne Burroughs

Stephen Wayne Burroughs of Toccoa, GA. A devoted and loving family man passed away peacefully on July 9, 2023, at the age of 76, after bravely facing a brief illness. He was born to Bill and Wilna Burroughs on April 24, 1947, in Meridian, MS, and spent his formative years growing up in Augusta, GA.

From an early age, Steve's passions for problem solving, science, and mathematics were evident. He became an early contributor in mainframe computing technology, working to advance the technology while at Burroughs and Unisys corporations as a Systems Engineer. He was also a steadfast American and believer in our great country, serving in the Georgia National Guard.

A natural problem solver, throughout his life, Steve held a "can-do" personality. Challenges were met with determination as he pursued solutions with steadfast resolve. If it could be done, Steve was going to make it work. His dedication to overcoming obstacles inspired all those who had the privilege of knowing him. One of his favorite mottos and advice to those he led was “no obstacles.”

Steve was committed to his family and community, becoming a father figure to many boys, over the years. In addition to a love of boating, nature, animals, music, and reading, he loved to amuse others with his wonderful sense of humor. In his leisure, Steve found solace and joy in nature and music. He enjoyed boating, surrounded by the serenity of the outdoors while playing his favorite symphony or opera.

Steve will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Among those grieving his departure is the love of his life Catherine Deas Burroughs, son Andrew Stephen Burroughs, sister Sandra Kay Cooper, brother-in-law Jerold Tyson Cooper, nephew Michael Devin Cooper, brother William Michael Burroughs, and beloved dog Panda.

A memorial service to celebrate the remarkable life of Stephen Wayne Burroughs will be held in the near future. Details can be obtained by reaching out to Andrew. In this time of sorrow, the Burroughs family finds solace in the outpouring of support and love extended to them. They are deeply grateful for the condolences and compassion they have received.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to The American Cancer Society or American Association for Cancer Research in honor of Steve.

Stephen Wayne Burroughs will be remembered as a guiding light, inspiring us to dream big, take responsibility, work hard, and embrace life's challenges with resilience and humor. May he rest in peace.
