Stephen's obituary

Stephen passed away October 19th, 2024 after an aggressive fight with cancer. Born to the late Robert F. Arnold and Ruth E. Arnold on February 5th, 1954, the third of five children, he leaves behind both of his sisters Ruth Kemp, Lorrie Anglin,  and sister-in-law Candy Arnold. Steve was predeceased by both brothers, Bobby and John Arnold.

Stephen leaves behind his family: Catherine Mickevich, the woman whom he raised his family with, daughter Shannon E. Jones (48) of Wareham, son David Mickevich (46) of Middleboro, and the three daughters he and Cathy shared, Nicole M Arnold (41) of Bourne, Stephanie R . Arnold (39) of Hyannis, and Lorri A. Arnold (36) of Middleboro. They also left their first grandson Mark C. Jones (30) of Hanson, who Stephen and Cathy raised as more of a second son, making him a great grandfather of two boys, Max and Eivin.

Stephen leaves behind five more grandsons and five granddaughters.

On February 10th, 1979, just days after his 17th birthday, Stephen followed in his father and brother Bobby's footsteps joining the United States Marine Corps, serving until his honorable discharge. Then he started his family. He worked as the head mechanic in charge of Boston's motor pool vehicle fleet before eventually moving his family to the Cape and working as a truck driver until he eventually retired.

Steve was always a hard working man doing everything he could to take care of his family that was always growing. Every summer for many years, he would pack family and friends in vans and trucks to drive hours on vacations with a rowdy bunch of kids while letting it be known if everyone didn't calm down “I will turn this car around!” the whole time but never once did, so everyone could go have fun at Rocky Point together. Steve later got a boat to spend time with his family and friends, having everyone come down to the Cape, play in the water, and eat BBQ together all summer…until one of his nephews broke the boat ruining everyone's fun. Steve never stopped teasing Chris about every chance he got.

Steve and Cathy always kept an open door policy. Everyone was welcome and all part of the family. As long as no one forgot his “my house, my rules” speech whenever the house was getting unruly with all the family and friends always around. He would always be there to them keep them in line or put them to work just like his own kids, “because if you're going to be at my house as much as I am, you could mow a lawn or pick up a paint brush or a rak.” And they would respectfully help on whatever project was being done at that time. There was always something to fix, always something to build, and always something to be done. He would make good use out of every able body hanging around at his house. Given the open door policy, the house was always filled with love, laughter, family, and friends. The rest was everything that always comes with a full house- never having a dull moment.

Steve has touched many people and impacted so many lives over the years. We invite all of you to come say goodbye and/or celebrate his life at St. Peter's Church on Main St. Buzzards Bay on Saturday, November 16th 2024, at 11:00 AM.
