Stephanie's obituary
Stephanie Key, beloved daughter, sister, friend, and passionate advocate for her community, passed away on February 7, 2025, at the age of 38 in Burgaw, NC. Born in Jacksonville, NC, on November 10, 1986, Stephanie’s vibrant spirit and love for life touched the hearts of all who knew her.
A proud North Carolina native, Stephanie grew up in Richlands and attended Richlands High School, where she formed lifelong friendships, including her “Crew” which she met during middle school band class. As a talented flutist and singer, Stephanie's love for music and theater carried with her throughout her life. She later attended Catawba College, where she earned her Bachelor's in the Arts, a testament to her creative and dedicated nature.
Stephanie’s career in tourism was a reflection of her love for her hometown and its people. As a Tourism Assistant for Pender County Tourism, she worked with heart and enthusiasm, taking great pride in organizing the annual Ghost Walk and delighting in her role as Mrs. Claus during the holidays. Her work was not just a job to her, but a way to bring the community together and share the beauty of the area she loved so much.
In her personal life, Stephanie was a passionate lover of animals, live music, and good company. Whether she was attending a country or rock concert, cheering on her favorite Nascar drivers, or enjoying a fun wrestling match, Stephanie embraced every moment with joy. Her love of movies, Disney, and supporting local businesses were also integral parts of who she was.
Stephanie’s family and friends were always at the center of her world. She was deeply connected to her loved ones, both old and new, and always made those around her feel welcome. Her kindness, generosity, and love for people will be remembered by everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Stephanie leaves behind a legacy of laughter, warmth, and love for her community. She is survived by her parents, siblings, and many other cherished family members and friends who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
A service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, February 15th at Topsail Island Park at 10:00 AM. See the Events tab for full details. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to local animal shelters in honor of Stephanie.
Stephanie's bright light may no longer be with us, but her spirit and love will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. Rest in peace, Stephanie. You will be missed dearly.
