Charlene and I knew Stevie - as she was known since her high school days - in the 1970's. At the time, we were working at Northwood Children's Home in Duluth, and she was working for the Duluth public schools. Our friend, Pat McBride was also a teacher who worked at the small school in the treatment center. She also worked with Stevie at other schools in Duluth. We kept in touch with Stevie when she went to Bayfield the first time. We also knew that she got married and moved to Port Washington. After that the trail went cold - aside from Christmas cards which we sent each year. We were greatly shocked and saddened to learn of her death and even more dismayed to see that there was only a one-sentence obituary in several papers. Charlene and I both believe that her life deserves to be remembered and honored.
