Starr's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Starr Martens, a woman of great spirit and unbridled honesty. Born on July 18, 1947, Starr left us peacefully in her sleep on June 12, 2024, at the Dove House hospice in Whittier, California. Her absence is deeply felt by all who knew her, but we take solace in knowing she is free from pain and reunited with her loved ones.

Starr was a force to be reckoned with, earning the affectionate moniker of 'firecracker' for her unwavering honesty and forthright nature. Her personality was a beacon in the lives of many, and she was never one to shy away from offering her insights, whether solicited or not. Starr possessed a heart of courage and a spirit that remained unbroken, traits that were admired by all who knew her.

Starr's love story with her partner of over 25 years, Stanley Wilson, was one she cherished deeply. His passing left a void in her life that never quite filled, illustrating the profound depth of their bond. Her love for her children was similarly profound and unyielding. She would ask about her daughter until her last day, yearning for a chance to speak with her one last time.

In Starr's wake, she leaves behind a loving family who will uphold her legacy. Her son, Robert Harden, and his son, Sidney Harden, will continue her lineage. Her surviving siblings, brother Dale Martens (and his wife, Eileen, and their children) and sister, Susan Evans (and her child), remember her with fondness and affection. These family members join a wider circle of friends and acquaintances in mourning her loss.

Starr was predeceased by her partner, Stanley Wilson; her parents, Dorothy Newman and Karl Martens; and her brother, Maurice "Arnie" Martens. We hope that they have welcomed her into the next journey, where pain does not exist and only love prevails.

We say our final goodbyes to Starr, knowing she rests in peace, her vibrant spirit living on in the hearts and minds of those she left behind. We remember her not just for her fiery persona, but also for her endless love, her boundless wisdom, and her enduring legacy. Farewell, Starr. You will be missed.
