Stanley “Stan”'s obituary

Stanley “ Stan “ Eugene Ottaway

Nov. 21, 1937 - Jan. 5, 2025

Stanley Eugene Ottaway, 87, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away on January 5, 2025. Born on November 21, 1937, to Dorthy Hix Ottaway and Leonard Ottaway, Stan was the oldest of seven children. He grew up in a modest two-bedroom house, away from the city, and experienced the challenges of poverty. Despite this, he and his family always made the best of what they had, instilling in him a love for hard work and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.

Stan attended high school at Granite Falls High where he was actively involved in the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and developed a passion for farming, which he dreamed of pursuing. He also nurtured a love for the fine arts, participating in theater .

In April of 1957, at the age of 19, Stan married his first wife, Edna. Together, they raised three children Tim , Gene, and Sug. After 13 years, they parted ways, and in August of 1972, Stan married his second wife, Linda, with whom he raised three additional children Leonard ( Lane ) , Dianna, and Coreena.

Throughout his life, Stan was fascinated by large machinery, leading him to a variety of careers. He worked in logging and truck driving before retiring as a bus driver with UTA, a job he truly enjoyed. As a bus driver, Stan had the opportunity to interact with all kinds of people, and he often took his grandchildren along for the ride, sharing his love for meeting new faces.

Stan’s greatest joy came from teaching his children and grandchildren essential life skills, from swimming to riding bikes. He was a social man who loved to engage with others and build lasting connections wherever he went.

Stan was preceded in death by his parents, his infant sister —whom he was eager to finally meet, and his brothers Vern and Harold “ Butch” . He is survived by his six children , nine grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
