Stanley (Stan)'s obituary
In Loving Memory of Stanley (Stan) Durant Burch, Sr.
December 11, 1960 - June 4, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved Stanley (Stan) Burch, Sr. on June 4, 2025, at the age of 64. Born to Ruby Nell and raised by her and Robert Lee Powell in Hickory, North Carolina, Stan was the eldest of five siblings: Leon, Daphne, Teresa, and Christopher. He resided in Durham, North Carolina, where he left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Stan graduated from North Carolina A&T State University-Greensboro with a Bachelor of Science degree. He excelled as a Systems Network Engineer at First Citizens Bank in Virginia and North Carolina, where he was cherished by colleagues for his dedication and humor. Family was the cornerstone of Stan's life, and his laughter and warmth made him a beloved family member and friend. As a passionate sports enthusiast, Stan played football, ran track, and enjoyed basketball and softball, with basketball being a favorite. His love for sports extended to golf as well. A proud military veteran, Stan served his country in the Navy.
Though I met cousin Stan later in life, our family conversations were filled with stories and laughter that brought us closer. My mother, Creola, always spoke highly of Stan, and when I finally met him, I understood her deep admiration. During a difficult time in my life, Stan offered unwavering support for my sister, Lucy. When she passed away in 2023, Stan was a pillar of strength for me and many others.
Stan is survived by his two children, Stanley, Jr. and Giovanni, and his grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Leon, Christopher, Teresa, and Daphne, as well as numerous cousins, uncles, and other relatives. Stan's legacy of kindness, his willingness to help others, and his professional achievements will forever remain in our hearts.
In honor of Stan's memory, donations can be made to his family, through Leon Powell. Your contribution, no matter the amount, will go directly toward honoring his memory and supporting his loved ones during this difficult time. Also, please consider sharing this page to reach others who knew him.
Rest in peace, Stan. You will be deeply missed, but your memory will forever be cherished.
