The Stockton family is so sad to hear about Mr. Detring's passing. He and our Mom, Emma Lou Johnson Stockton, worked together in the 4-H Extension Office for over 10 years. Their shared goal of educating and leading Union County students never ceased. My sisters--Jennifer Quinn, Carol Courtney, Susan Stockton Walther--and myself, Laura Lewis, enjoyed years of 4-H, whether it was filling out record books, giving demonstrations, or attending summer camp in Dawson Springs. Mr. Detring and my Mom had a passion for 4-H camp and the fun it brought to campers. When Susan was a camp counselor, Mr. Detring and Dad let Lt. Gov. Steve Beshears know how awful the swimming pool was. By the next summer, campers had a brand new pool and (much) improved cabins! Mr. Detring had a way of quietly and politely getting things done. He was a true gentleman. His calm and caring demeanor made you feel at ease. Because of his nominations, Susan and I submitted and won scholarships to college. His influence on and contributions to so many are just part of his long lasting legacy. Thank you Mr. Detring. Love to you all, Laura Stockton Lewis

Uncle Stanley was a good guy and always fun to be with. I treasure memories with him Gail, Mike, Diana and Brian especially on the farm. He was nice to my dad Walter during his last years in assisted living. Dad always mentioned his calls with Stanley. Now all four siblings are gone. Life is precious!

Stanley was my cousin and a part of my "growing up years." I will miss him greatly and extend my heartfelt prayers to his daughter, whom he loved dearly, and her family on their loss.
Granddad Stanley facilitated so many of my favorite childhood memories. From trips to Europe with Mommy Gail to so many adventures on the farm in Morganfield, I always left our visits with new discoveries and treasures. I still have in my wallet the four leaf clover we plucked and he laminated for me, and I drove my first car until it had over 200k miles - his baby blue Prius which had once taken a quick dip in his beloved pond. I loved to tell my passengers that story and explain the worn out glove compartment button where he stashed peppermints. I'm so thankful for these memories and for my Granddad.

Steve and I both thought so much of Stanley and are so very sorry for your loss. Renie and Katie both join us in offering our sympathy and caring. He was a great guy and always so welcoming and kind, whether at church, 4 H events, or, just running into him. He was a great asset to our county, and I know you will miss him. You have our sympathy.
