Spot's obituary

Surrounded by family, Mr. Spot passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 26th at Palmer Veterinary Clinic. Spot was born in Moscow, Idaho on December 18th 2012. He was from a litter of blue merle border collies, and was raised in a doggy daycare and grooming facility. He was later adopted by Richard Scuderi (Ricky), a college student who was working at the facility. They were inseparable, and had an instant connection when they met in May of 2013. After Ricky completed his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Idaho, they moved to Essex Junction, Vermont in May of 2015 where Ricky would obtain his master’s in animal sciences at UVM. From there, they relocated to Syracuse in 2017 then returned to the Champlain Valley in Plattsburgh in 2019. In total, Spot visited 27 US states and Quebec, and lived in 8 different addresses across three states. He loved to travel with his dad (Ricky), and go on outdoor adventures including hiking, swimming, kayaking, camping, and snow shoeing. He also very much enjoyed chasing squirrels into trees, playing ball, chewing his toys, and going for French fries and doggy ice cream on special occasions. Spot was silly, smart, genuine, and always had so much love to share. He loved his family, including the kitties. He was also a very tough dog – despite a serious hip injury last year, he recovered better than expected and returned to his normal happy self. Even during his final months with lymphoma, he fought a good fight and maintained quality of life until the very end. Spot is predeceased by his feline siblings Chubbs and Wiggles from Ricky’s ex-partner and friend, Kenny Shifflett. Spot is survived by Ricky and many family members, including Kenny (Woodbridge, VA), feline siblings Spyro and Barbie Scuderi (Plattsburgh, NY), grandparents Rick and Vickie Scuderi (Buckeye, AZ), and many more loved ones including Ben, Ray, Edie, Libby, and Miles Carman (Plattsburgh) as well as Evan and Maya Litwin (Burlington, VT). To celebrate his beautiful life, the family will be hosting an intimate memorial service this fall. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for the outpouring support, and to the wonderful staff and doctors at Palmer Veterinary Clinic for Spot’s compassionate care.
